Giterikin Civil War

a simmering millennia-long conflict over the rightful rulership of The Giteri, fought between the Eastern Giterikin League and the Western Giterikin House, with the many other petty nobles of the area allying with one or the other of the above factions as best served their interests.

Historical Significance

Origins: Queen died without affirming an heir. the two most powerful First Kenma (Vovari and Alzig), each long allies of the queen and rivals at court, each made their attempt to seize the throne. the immediate relatives and friends of the queen either fled, were killed, or (more rarely) aligned with one of the two above.   developments:
  • initial stalemate: Vovari based in Cimmati, Alzig in Sharris.
  • "the Good Years": 60-70 years of peace, after The Western Giterikin House, led by the Vovari, secured a decisive victory, killing the other Aspirant and managing a relatively disruption-free coronation in Rhythonze. this success was built on the back of Strawmunculi becoming easier to produce due to Vovari innovations, allowing a higher militarisation especially out of season. after one successful succession, the next was disputed by the Kenma of Amicloi - already inflated in power after the successful coup of Alzig and effective seizure of the Gollow Borders, and who the previous monarch was overly keen to appease rather than confront. With the backing of the Sokani, they rebuilt the old Eastern League and disrupted the coronation. by this point, the strawmunculi advances had proliferated, and the armies were correspondingly larger and more professional.
  • middle stalemate: Vovari based in Rythonze, then Cimmati. Amicloi Based in Burlis, then Rhythonze.
  • detente: for a long period, the two sides instigated a ceasefire and kept their squabbling to petty border disputes and petty wars between Second and Third Domains. Rhythonze was a neutral city.
  • Western Retreat: following the breaching of the Vovari Barrier, the western houses were slowly forced back, eventually being based in the western border-cit of Andoi.
  • ????????
  • conclusion: Aspirant and other associated family on the losing side is exiled, either to join a religious order or being transformed into Urchins
