Urthspyre

Sitting on the northern most coast lies a circular city, walled off from the dangerous outside world. Behind the singular 50 foot high entrance gate, and even taller barrier walls, is a large residential quarter.The quarter expands all around the outskirts of the spire, with embedded smaller market districts deep within them.   An inner, elevated area of the circle seats more residents, that overlook the rest of the city. Here you can find interesting sights such as the grand hall, the arcane archives, and the martial institute.   At the heart of Urthspyre stands a tower that reaches toward the heavens. This spire has never been entered, as its large stone doors have remained sealed for all of known history.

Defences

3% (approx 1500) of Urthspyre's population has been conscripted into its town guard. They are used as a defensive force to protect against roaming creatures, prevent crimes, and respond to crisis. They are well equipped, but mostly inexperienced.   A tall polished stone wall surrounds the outside of the city, with only 1 massive entrance gate. The gate remains open during the daylight, but closes at nightfall.   The north side of the settlement sits closer to a cliff face, which has a multi level dock system designed for lowering small 'sloop' like ships for travel/transport of goods.

Infrastructure

Tower - The city is circular in nature with slight elevation toward the center, which stands a tower so large/tall that it stretches beyond the clouds. This spire has an expanded base, with large stone doors sitting in the middle.   Market Districts - There are 4 market districts with varying style of goods/services: North, South, East, West markets.   Grand Hall - A large building near the base of the spire. Used for city council meetings, and festivals.   Entertainment District - Also nicknamed the "Wards," this is a small quarter on the eastern side of the city, buried within the Eastern Market.   Martial Institute - The training academy for the town guard.   Sanctum - A grand cathedral devoted to the Devine's of each race.   Residential Areas - The city has 4 lower residential sections, and 4 upper sections.   Arcane Archives - Near the base of the tower an expansive library of Arcane Knowledge.

History

Urthspyre started off as a small hamlet surrounding the base of a giant tower that still stands. As population grew, it eventually expanded to the massive city it is today.

Architecture

Buildings are made of a variation of stone, marble, brick, mortar, and wooden frames. Buildings here are generally 2 - 3 stories high to make most out of the limited space.   The roof tops of many buildings are have gardens, or are used for a professional trade.
