Oliver Sloan
Oliver Sloan is a mild mannered university student who gets drafted when mysterious attacks, from an unseen enemy, change reality around the world, but centered somewhere in Thieis. He is later reassigned to a top secret unit operating out of an underground base in the northern mountain region of the nation. The unit has means of fighting back and try to understand the reality changing attacks. He is partnered with another guy whom he met briefly at Gwut, on his eighteenth birthday, and the two become a couple.
Just before his 16th birthday Oliver became an orphan, when his parents and only relatives, died in a car crash. He ended up living in a youth shelter in central Dot Clyr for the next few months. During the summer he'd take his guitar, a microphone and and an amplifier to Twob Park and sing his favorite songs from popular musicals. Another boy, same age as him, soon started come watch and listen, drop money in his guitar case and make requests for the show tunes that he liked. It was clear that the boy was attracted to Oliver, by his demeanor around Oliver, and Oliver was attracted to the boy. After a week of this an older man accompanied the boy to the park, to listen to Oliver, and when Oliver finished his favorite song the boy came over to Oliver, asked him if they could kiss, and after they did the man bought Oliver and the boy ice cream from a nearby stand, and they ate it at one of the cafe tables. The man was Saspal Prisi, the famous opera singer, and the boy was Michael, another orphan whom Saspal had staying with him, and offered to do the same for Oliver. They invited Oliver back to Saspal's suite at Gwut, where Oliver lost his virginity that afternoon.
Officially Oliver was in a foster home, run by Saspal, just like Michael also was. In reality the two boys were more like rent boys, and were constantly having sex with Saspal, each other, and sometimes Saspal brought home friends of his and pimped Oliver and Michael out to them. Oliver and Michael did live in luxury though, sometimes in Saspal’s villa outside the city, but mostly in the hotel suite he rented at Gwut.
Saspal used his fame and influence as an opera singer to have the The Royal Opera in Dot Clyr stage a new production of Cupbearer to the Gods, by Pror Cuas, and gave the lead role of Lersan Codra to Oliver, whom Saspal already knew could sing, plus that Oliver was as beautiful as Lersan was supposed to be. Saspal set Oliver up with a vocal coach at the opera, to learn belle canto. Saspal's original plan was that he would get to have sex with Oliver, multiple times, per performance, live on stage. However, to Oliver’s relief, the director and several others working at the opera made sure that no actual penetration would occur on stage, but only simulated sex.
The next summer, after the final performance of the opera, for the season, Saspal died of cardiac arrest. Oliver rescued Michael from under Saspal’s body, and stayed with him, as Michael was in shock. The Pror Cuas Foundation, had learned of Oliver’s and Michael’s situation by then and helped them. The Pror Cuas Foundation is dedicated to helping teenage boys getting out of a life of male prostitution and making sure they get an education that leads to a career in other fields. Therefore the Foundation arranged for them to go to the University in Aiddy.
Since there wouldn’t be any more performances of the opera production, Michael kept insisting that Oliver should seek other roles in musical theater, especially in the stage musicals he loved, like the musical adaptation of The Riots of Edaris Pelu.
