Biography

Early Life

Brogg was born in the year 8843 FFC, a time of strife and turmoil for the residents of Alterporton due to a calamitous tunnel collapse that killed many and cut off a vital trade route for a majority of the year. Brogg never met his father, as he was one of the missing workers, yet his mother clung to the fact that the body was never found and with each passing year fell further into a depression. Schooling was difficult, yet he preferred the classes and teachers to the sad state of his home, and luckily he quickly found his voice as a cunning and shrewd businessman as early as age 25, brokering deals between smaller trade caravans. He found work under Roscoe Rockwrecker, the high representative to the dwarfmoot form Alterporton's Ruby District, after saving him from a runaway mine cart and proved his business and political acumen countless times cauding Rockwrecker to name Brogg as his heir-apparent for his position.

Early Political Career

Rockwrecker served his role until 8989 FFC when he retired to the Duchy of Ulana to enjoy the fine wines of the region. Berylback was appointed as representative on his 146th birthday, making him the youngest of the 20 officials serving under the chieftain of Alterporton, who at the time was High Miner Ephraim Masonmight. Brogg continued his work with his now thriving trade caravan which whom he accepted a lesser role as condition of his political office and was notoriously busy both in Alterporton as well as other dwarven cities negotiating primarily trade agreements to build Alterporton back to its former glory as the preeminent trading hub. Unfortunately in the year 9030, both his mentor and mother succumbed to a strong illness that affected the entire Kingdom, leaving Brogg grieving for a majority of the year and shirking his duties as both politician and trader. This decline in productivity coincided with the resignation of Masonmight, creating the need for a new chieftain and although Brogg had previously expressed interest and had gained the support of a majority of his peers, he decided against submitting his name for consideration and the role was instead won by his political rival, Tannus Rubywrencher. This affected Brogg greatly, and he resigned his position in 9031 and instead focused on his trade caravan.

Miloš and Warwikhamp

In the summer of 9033 FFC, Brogg was suprised to find a young earth genasi resting in the back of his cart upon returning from a trade route to Alterporton. Impressed the boy snuck under his nose as well as his overall defiant demeanor, Brogg persoanlly returned the boy, named Miloš, to his mother, Sofia Dažbog of Warwikhamp. Learning Miloš also lacked a father, he gave them an open invitation to Alterporton and promised he would have them as his personal guests at any time when he was in town. Despite initial pushback, the above-ground pair soon were welcome in the dwarven fortress city and by the year 9040 they were well-known throughout the tunnels.

Personal and Political Growth

Soon after finding Miloš, Brogg reconnected with Yarafina Understone, née Rockwrecker, the daughter of his role-model, Roscoe. After a quick courtship, the two married and Brogg suddenly had a renewed vigor in his political life. He sold his caravan to his now son-in-law Roscoe Jr., and was quickly appointed as lone representative of the Coal district, the poorest and most run-down area of the city. While no dwarf had served longer than 8 months as Coal represenative, Brogg's term from 9035-9043 was highlighted by extreme public service and social reform, including an access tunnel to the district that bypassed a congested area and brought commerce to the struggling area. This propelled Brogg back to the political forefront and he became a voice for the dwarves who had seen Rubywrencher as a pawn of the business elite and potential war profiteer, as the forges had ramped up production of weapons. This led to an emergency meeting of the dwarfmoot during which Brogg famously smashed a ruby-encrusted dagger to display his displeasure with the Chieftain. Seeing the waves of chaos brewing and themselves being uneasy with Rubywrencher's recent actions, the dwarfmoot decided to appoint High Merchant Brogg Berylback as Chieftain of Alterporton on the 2nd of Rekindling 9044.
