Duchy of Reshensha
Geography
Reshensha composes the southwestern coast of the Kingdom and is the main naval center for the Kingdom’s western fleet. Larger in land area than most Duchies, Reshensha is diverse in its geography. Lowlands and floodplains in the south along the Didacian border are dominated by the gargantuan Union Reservoir. Central Reshensha is primarily characterized by grassy and treeless plains in the core and the vast swamplands of the Kald Peninsula stretching to the west. In the southern central core lies the Gald Desert, an area few inhabit; in addition to being inhospitable to life, the region is said to be cursed. In northern Reshensha, bordering the independent Duchy of the Crag, the plains gradually give way to rocky mountains that increase in elevation going north upon which coniferous forests grow, which feed the naval production of the region. Across the entire Duchy stretch long snaking rivers, along which most settlements are found.History
Culturally, Reshensha is known for its high reverence for waterways, justice, peace, and law. Each of the fortress cities boasts many ornate and beautiful courthouses in which much of the Kingdom’s vast legal apparatus is run. The court and legal system of the Kingdom is inextricably linked to the will of the Augurs who use augury and the reading of omens to determine legal rulings on things as trivial as petty theft and loitering to far more serious matters such as murder or treason. The capital of Dytestab is home to the Grand Courthouse of Lenatha where the Codex of the Augurs is housed, in which every legal ruling is recorded, examined, and consulted for precedence in future cases. The citizens of Reshensha are emboldened by this and are fiercely loyal to the ducal throne, the law, and the augury. They also believe in the absolute truth that a peaceful resolution is always possible. Reshenshans also feel a deep connection with all waterways due to a historical relationship with their life-giving nature. As such, they are often at home near the water, be it the ocean, rivers, swamps, or reservoir. Reshenshan sailors are known for their extremely intense nature in executing their orders with utter precision, followed by brief prayers under their breath thanking the waters for their good fortune. Recently, the destruction of the Western Fleet has been a cultural shock for the people of Reshensha. Additionally, a fear grips the people of the north as they believe the Crag may invade any day from the highlands, from which they have no hope of success on land. Major deities of the region include Eldath, mother of waters, and Invictoli, lord of law. Their reverence for the Monarch is directly tied to their ability to maintain order, peace, and justice in the Kingdom.A long lineage of River Triton royals rules over the ducal throne of Reshensha. The Triton in the area primarily live in and along the coast of Union Reservoir. The families which have presided over the throne trace their lineage back to the formation of the reservoir following the Starfall. Under their leadership, the creation of the reservoir saved the region from ecological collapse. Over the eons since then, Reshensha under these various Triton families has acted as a stabilizing force in the region as they have fostered a culture of level-headed discussion, law, and negotiation. The current Duchess of Reshensha is Margo of the Reservoir, a brilliant negotiator who has brokered deals across the region. While being exceptionally young for a Duchess at the age of 22, she makes up for it with a wisdom and brilliance beyond her years. Hailing from the Dambuilder Family, she embodies her descendants’ exceptional leadership in coordination and radical empathy. Recently, she has been openly negotiating with the Consulate government for military aid against the Crag and Hrim invasion after the Western Fleet was smashed in its opening weeks. It is widely accepted that she will succeed in this endeavor.
