Wayside Attacked Report
General Summary
Previously: Ball of Evil, Herd of Goats
The Growler would like you to help out a friend of the town. A gnome named Pinchwit Wigglehoof works as an experience goat herder, and is taking her massive flock of giant goats to Phandalin as part of a business deal. She is confident in her ability to lead the herd, but wants some fighters along in case of trouble.
The party agree and gather up their belongings into Fubert's unsettlingly stocked caravan. They take the mirror and the two undead friends they have found in the cart with them.
Journeying up the road, Tharg gets to know the goats and hears a great deal about their world view and their relationship with the gnomes who herd them. Most notably, that they strive to act with honour and strength, so that in their next life they will be reborn as even bigger goats. They believe that those being sold to new owners are likely being given the chance to do battle for this honour.
On approach to Wayside Inn, they find the building under seige by undead. The herd keep their distance while the Party engage these foes. The fight is quick but brutal, as the wraiths have a life-draining attack affecting their victim's overall vitality. Once dispatched, Herdyr notes a skull motif surrounded by a black triangle on the zombie corpses -a religious symbol they have encountered before, denoting an old deity with powers over death and unlife. On destroying the symbol, she feels a chill as she catches the menacing attention of this god.
Next: Wyvern Threat.
