Inspect the Door - Failure

FAILURE

  As Slate, Tammi, Arsus, and Strider cautiously approach the imposing door leading to the throne room, they inspect its surface for any signs of traps. Unfortunately, their attempts fall short, missing the subtle triggers hidden within the mechanism.   As they push open the door, anticipation fills the air, only to be shattered by the sudden activation of the fortress's defenses. The door swings open, revealing a small hallway leading to the grand royal hall. Before the party could take another step, a series of ballistae hidden within the walls and ceiling unleashed a barrage of deadly projectiles.   The air is filled with the twang of taut bowstrings and the thunderous roar of released bolts. Instinctively, the party reacts. Strider raises his shield to deflect incoming projectiles while Arsus maneuvers swiftly, his Dragonborn reflexes allowing him to evade the deadly rain.   Always the shortest of the team, Tammi orders her mastiff to duck and weave between the onslaught, avoiding the lethal bolts. Slate, displaying a resilient demeanor, shields himself with his sturdy armor, minimizing the impact of the projectiles. The party, now under siege by the relentless onslaught, realizes the gravity of their oversight. The once seemingly unguarded door has become a gateway to danger.   As they navigate the hail of bolts, the party moves quickly to seek cover in the small hallway, strategizing their next move. Amid the chaos, the ballistae fire with mechanical precision, forcing the adventurers to assess their surroundings while taking small amounts of damage from arrows and the debris they create. A plan is necessary to advance without succumbing to the deadly onslaught. The air is tense as the party readies themselves for the challenges within the royal hall of Axeholm Fortress.   (Party takes 3 HPs of damage)
