Alfar

Alfar, the Golden Ones. Proud and powerful, they emerged from the First Battle victoriously and claimed the most fertile land as their prize, Aucort and Bauserbeil. Because their nations are in the middle of the continent of Phantaforas, their cities have thrived, importing from and exporting to other nations with ease through their massive trade routes.

GENERAL APPEARANCE

Alfar, the soft and fair, are gentler than the other Aelvanir races in a handful of ways. Generally either endomorphic or ectomorphic, they have a hard time building muscles but are serene and graceful in any shape they're put in. Their fingers are delicate, their necks long, their ears pressed close against the sides of their head.

Due to progressing discoveries and innovations, as well as a slight predisposition to excess, the Alfar started using their wings less and less until, overtime, they shrunk. Now nothing more than an ornament, their race is notorious for decorating their feathered appendages in a manner of ways, from jewelry to tattoos, tapestries to trinkets - there have also been rumors of Alfars working on a secret formula to grow their wings back to their glorious size.

Average Lifespan: 300 - 500 years

Facial Features: The shapes of their faces are subtle, often round or oval with the occasional heart-shaped scattered here or there, and their eyes are bright and intelligent. All Alfar are known to have straight, thin noses with a slight bump in the middle (aquiline).
Common Skin Tones: While older Alfar and Alfar from upper-class bloodlines generally have a light-gold skin tone, most are born with fair skin that only turn gold when they've reached the age of 300 - something considered as the prime of an Alfar's life.
Common Eye Colors: Green, blue, silver

Ideals

Beauty Ideals - Wings are important in Alfar courtship and reproduction. It’s believed that Alfars with large wings are attractive - noble houses prioritize children with larger wings and betroth them to like-winged nobles to produce similarly large-winged heirs. While large-winged heirs are celebrated in the family and often inherit the House, they are shackled down into marriages that they do not wish for and are constantly watched by the people around them; meanwhile, small-winged heirs are forgotten but have the freedom to do what they wish and love who they please without repercussions.

In this case, it’s almost as if large-winged individuals are something akin to test subjects, being selectively bred in order to produce the best results. It’s not an ideal lifestyle but many small-winged Alfar blindly wish for it if only to live a life of comfort. While mating outside of their species isn’t new, marrying is generally frowned upon due to the possibility of producing a non-Alfar heir.

Myths and Legends

Alfar do not worship any deity and have never found the need to establish any of their own. Instead of referring to the past, they look at the present and its future outcome, always thinking forward with wide eyes.
