Hanbei is the young lord and
Count of Violight. He's aloof in the way he carries himself, but those that know him are aware of his powerful intellect. He is the younger brother of General
Ginchiyo, inheriting the title of Count over her due to her vows as a Sacred Knight of Valla, serving as one of the royal guards to the
Vallite Crown.
His partner Pokemon is a cheerful Raichu which he's had ever since it was a Pichu and he was a baby.
Mental characteristics
Hanbei became the Count of Violight when he was only 16, 4 years ago, shortly after Ginchiyo made her vows. One day, his mother, who was the previous Violighten Count, vanished with only a note claiming to have left to the volcanic islands north of Crysalia, seemingly abandoning the crown. His father still serves as one of his advisors on his court.
He has a wife,
Cordelia, whom he married shortly after his sister made her vows and his mother disappeared. She was the daughter of the leader a mercenary group in Valora which was hired by
Denki Kozai, which was tasked with guarding shipments when travelling between the nations. They became fast friends and always met when she visited, and when seeking a practical marriage upon his ascension, he thought of no one better to ask.
As Count of Violight, Hanbei manages the production and distribution of power throughout Ransei, as well as monitoring the production of newer technological inventions within the region, especially ones powered by Rotom. With the death of the previous Vallite Queen two years prior, he has also occasionally served remotely as a counselor to Queen Oichi, although he doesn't appear to do this often.
History
Cordelia and Hanbei got married when he was 16 and she was 17, only a year older. According to Hanbei, they were friends ever since they were young kids, visiting whenever the mercenary company was in Violight. While there wasn't an initial courtship (at least not publicly), and the marriage appeared to be just for the security of the succession, it's become clear over the years to the people of Violight that they care deeply for one another.
History
Ginchiyo and Hanbei could not be any more different than each other, and were never extremely close. Where Ginchiyo values honor, strength, and duty, Hanbei values cunning, intrigue, and intelligence.
It would have been Ginchiyo that would've inherited the title of Count of Violight if she had not taken her oath as a Sacred Knight of Valla, leaving the responsibility on her much younger brother. This led to the two leading wildly different lives, becoming even more estranged from each other as time went on.
Their views on each other appear to be surprisingly neutral. Ginchiyo would never let her personal emotions interfere with her duties, while Hanbei has always kept his cards close to his chest, especially after becoming a Count.
