Ragnarok

Ragnarok is the name the gods have given the current apocalypse. It arose as an unintended side effect of the Preservation Proclamation, which was meant to prevent an apocalypse like The Shattering from ever happening again. Under the terms of this treaty, the gods cannot directly combat each other, and they cannot interfere in each other's domains.
Unfortunately, the gods did not foresee the rise of Iapetus, god of mortality. He wields a spear known as Denouement, which renders any creature it strikes mortal. Iapetus is bent on using this spear to eliminate all forms of immortality throughout The multiverse, including that held by the gods. Because of their own treaty, the gods cannot directly confront this newcomer, nor can they restore immortality to their fellow gods who have been struck by Denouement. Instead, their only hope is to collectively raise an army of mortal champions to slay this new god.
They gather prospective champions in Vigrid, and force them to fight each other in order to train them as quickly as possible so that they will be ready to fight when the time comes.
