Iapetus

Iapetus was the avatar of mortality. His existence was a closely guarded secret, because the gods feared him and considered him a threat to the natural order of The multiverse. Iapetus, despite possessing power above that of gods, was actually a mortal himself.  He looked like an incredibly average human wielding a very mundane looking spear that has the disturbing tendency to bleed for no apparent reason. It bore a striking resemblance to Dénouement, but was actually a similar spear crafted to replace Dénouement since he lost it years prior to The Celestial/Murderers encountering him..   He was the one in charge of Ragnarok, the apocalypse associated with The Age of Mortality. He summoned gods to The Arena, to be judged by the Hands of Fate who reside in The Town. Those found wanting by the mortals were, themselves, rendered mortal. Iapetus himself made no attempt to actually slay gods turned mortal in this way, but for most of the gods, especially the old gods, old age took them in fairly short order. According to Iapetus, this was an attempt to "restore the natural order" and make the world "the way it was meant to be". He did not specify who decided what the "natural order" is, but speaks of this party in reverent tones.   After Penguin, The Celestial/Murderers, and the Hands of Fate assembled in Vigrid banded together to make changes to the Preservation Proclamation, Iapetus was slain by a coalition of mortal gods.  He did not go down quietly, however, slaying both Corellon Larethian and Vecna in the ensuing battle.
