Archduchess of Avernus (a.k.a. The Fallen, Mistress of Pain)
Zariel is the ruler of Avernus. She is responsible for guarding the gates of hell against invaders and troublemakers.

Personal history
Zariel was once an archangel in service to the god Tyr. She fought alongside him during The Shattering, and played a large part in Tyr's survival during that conflict. However, she did not feel that she was adaquately recognized for her efforts in the aftermath. She was so enraged by this that she personally assaulted the nine hells, and seized control of Avernus. Much to her surprise, Asmodeus did not retaliate. Instead, he offered to grant her what she felt she deserved, and gave her a position as one of his Archdukes.
Morality & Philosophy
Although Zariel is no longer a bastion of goodness, her time as an angel still holds significant sway over her personality. Although the laws she enforces are very different from what she had before, she still retains her steadfast devotion to justice. She is even more of a stickler for the rules than your average devil, and will punish violators harshly. She and her followers constantly harass outsiders that are in her lands, in an attempt to make sure they are obeying the law.
Much unlike the other archdukes, she also has a strong disdain for politics. She holds no interest in getting along with the other archdukes, who she feels are below her. She will not bend to the will of anyone except for Asmodeus, and even that is done with much reluctance and frustration. This has made her a controversial figure in The nine hells.
