Vampyres

The vampyres of Falkovnia aren't undead, but a separate living species that feed on human blood. Errol could feel that their blood was warm and pulsed out as though pumped by a beating heart; they feel fear and are vulnerable to normal weapons (Errol's teeth and claws cut into them the way they cut into everything else).   You know that a vampyre's bite contains a powerful mind-controlling venom, and that Ludzig's was more potent than most, but you don't know whether they have other means of mind control. They drained blood from both Vanya and Errol with their bite, leaving them severely weakened (Constitution damage, which conveniently lowers the Fortitude save against the next venom attack; seriously, screw these guys). The young woman at the Red Dog called them "cat people," beautiful predators who played with their food.   Under Ludzig's leadership and inspired by the model of Falkovnian labor camps, the vampyres created clandestine feeding houses in Silbervas, keeping humans (including Maria Scarlatti) as cattle and playthings. They also brought certain powerful humans to the feeding houses for parties, where they could force the slaves to participate enthusiastically in any perversion they and their guests desired. Through these parties, they bought the complicity of their human allies and ensured that the feeding houses could continue to operate without interference. Vigo Drakov's brother, the crown prince, was among the humans they had in their pocket. After Vanya and Errol liberated the feeding houses and brought the conspiracy to Drakov, some of the vampyres fled before Drakov could turn his attention on them. At least three of those vampyres found their way into Bianca Scarlatti's menagerie . . .
