The eldest child and only daughter of Thane Refid Winter-Shield of Winterharbour, Matilda is one of the two surviving Wintershields born after the infamous night of the bear where her house was massacred by the Vilderfolken bear clan. A cunning warrior, fan of the arena, and shrewd diplomat with a rebellious streak, Matilda has become a favourite in high society for her antics and candid demeanour.
Despite her young age, Matilda acts older than she seems and has a cunning streak to her, hidden behind a youthful demeanour. Her weapon mastery and social skills make her popular in Aedrinaran society, but her boastfulness often mean enemies of the wintershields are quick to dismiss her to their peril. Matilda is the 'goddaughter' of Ivar and remembers watching Val fight in the Winterharbour arena as a child.

Personal history

Early Life

Matilda was born to Refid Wintershield and his wife when they were both still teenagers after the events of the Night of the Bear. This has long made her the presumed heir of the ancient house, and her father and surviving family have been training her whilst making sure not to put too much pressure on her for this coming role. As a youth, she would regularly attend battles at the Winterharbour Arena, the Qurraypit.

Heir of Furunheim Arc

Matilda would first meet Doomed 2 Die at the docks of Knut's Landing waiting for her relative and distant cousin, Starkard Wintershield. She recognised Val and the two said they would speak at the actual feast. During the feast, Matilda shared stories of Val's time in Winterharbour with Gallus. She would depart the following day after the attempted assassination on Arystyr Furyborn with her cousin.
