Here lies what once was a sea, now frozen solid as Primal Ice has taken over. This region was once known for its fishing, but centuries of steady temperature drops have turned this southernmost region into an arctic sheet. Stubborn local Passarins, continuing after generations of hardship, attempt the difficult traversal of the region in search of ways to melt the ice and return to their sacred way of life. — Study of the Relic Seas by Salem Diadios
These frigid and iced-over waters have been home to the stubborn
Passarins since they were once warm and bursting with fish to catch. A region once known for its vibrant trade, bountiful fishing, and skillful sailors has now been reduced to an artic waste. Long before
Caydon Rel's ascension and the ice brought with him, this area fed as much as two-thirds of
Marus and saw at least half of all trade in its ports. The Stillness is now bitterly cold and haunted by a brisk southeastern wind that races across a miles-long ice sheet. This thick and ever-expanding blanket of ice ranges from just a few feet thick at its thinest to several dozen feet at its thickest. Outside of vessels set to sail the
Strait of Embers, ships built for the ice are among the most specialized in the Realm and have many different methods for traversing otherwise impossible conditions. The
Passarins use these to transport massive amounts of Primal Fire to
Parin and
Kaelia in the hopes of staving off, halting entirely, or even reversing the frost that has claimed their home.
I love the stubborn Passarins. Also the alternate name of Penguin's Folly is perfect.
