Session 47 Report

General Summary

The Lanterns go back to Vor Ziyden. The town's little channels are overflown as if the constant rain and possibly the water coming from the mines are finally surfacing. The town and its surrounding houses and buildings have all been boarded up. Some houses had their doors marked with a stroke of red paint. What exactly does that mean isn't clear for the PCs yet. Bundles of herbs and pots of sour milk can be seen by some houses' entrances (It's believed that herbs and milk can keep diseases at bay).
The militia is doing frequent rounds, as there's a curfew: no one is allowed to be on the streets after midday.
The Lanterns are escorted by one of these patrols to the Church of Ezra. When they arrive there, they are received by the recently appointed new captain of the militia, Graffar: a burly and stinky Falkovnian brute, that has three massive Falkovnian War Hounds on his side and he's accompanied by a small detachment of rugged Falkovnian Mercenary, 11 men. They look fierce but slightly hurt too, with some of them portraying recently bandaged wounds.
Eventually the PCs are allowed into the Church and they see that there are dozens upon dozens of people taking refuge in the main hall. Some sick, some not. The scene is bleak, and the peasants' faces are marked by fear and hopelessness.
Sentire Duscha Yanoff doesn't look well either and soon she shows the PCs that she's sick too.
The Lanterns went to the The Silver Vein Inn and had a brief moment with the Mojica family, where Grimm then heals the patriarch, Dima.
By Danica's suggestion, Ariadne says she can put people into some kind of hybernation. She just needs some materials, that can be found at the Mortician's Lab and possibly at the tanneries. The PCs get some at the Mortician's, later on.  Afterwards, the PCs went to the stables and collected some equipment left there for them by the dwarven alchemist Ondor Brightbelt. The session ended at the stables.

Rewards Granted

  • XP to be awarded on Session 49.
  • Ondor left some equipment to the PCs: 3 firebombs, 1d6UD explosive bolts, 1d6UD explosive arrows, and a piece of chalk with brief instructions: the chalk keeps undead at bay (draw a line by an entrance) 1d6UD.
  • Character(s) interacted with

  • Ariadne: in the forest, while going back to Vor Ziyden, Ariadne tells some of her memories about Luca and how he used to love the forest. The conversation eventually leads to her asking to be taken to The Tower in the Lake, which the PCs told her they would do, even though they believe the Tower is no more. Nonetheless, they decided to take her there but only after going to the village.

  • Militia: the PCs are received by some militiamen and they tell the PCs Ariadne and Salvatore are being searched and supposed to be taken into custody. The reason isn't clear, only that it's the barons' orders. The militiamen also tell the PCs that all sick people were ordered to go to the church and stay there. Also through the militia, the PCs discovered that a caravan left in the morning of the 15th.

  •
  • Graffar: a conflict was barely avoided between Tuborg and Graffar, when their testosterone clashed. In the end, both men made the reasonable decision to not fight each other. He told the PCs they can get in the church, but that they need to stay indoors. The new rules state that everyone needs to stay indoors.

  • Sentire: she tells the Lanterns that people initially obeyed the order to take the sick to the church. But later the enforcement of such order was a bit rougher, with the Falkovnian mercenaries taking people from their own houses, braking in and dragging them by force to the church. She also says that the 2 militiamen that were previously bitten eventually turned into flesh-eaters and caused some havoc in the church before they were put down.

  • Sentire also says that in the 15th (a day ago), all the sick got really worse at around 4pm. The PCs show her the An Anchorite's Report, and she suddenly seems to remember a forgotten past and she gets shocked as she recognises Ichabod and how he didn't get any older. She said that she thought Ichabod would've died in the mines with the mercenaries that went exploring them, because nobody ever came back from that expedition.

  • Ariadne: in the conversation with Sentire, Ariadne says that Salvatore committed suicide 10 years ago, and was dead now.

  • Verina Mojic: the Lanterns get in the Inn and Verina shows them her sick father, Dima Mojic. Grimm decides to pray for him and casts a Cure Disease on him, which in turn earns the PCs eternal gratefulness from the family (and possibly free lodging).

  • Notes

  • Danica donated a large amount of money to the Church, a total of 1350gp (please correct me, as I don't remember the exact amount, but I think it was a couple of gems worth 900gp and 450gp).

  • Grimm cast an Enthrall spell on the Falkovnian Mercenaries to distract them from Danica and disguised Ariadne, allowing them to leave the church and go to the Mortician's.
