Goddess is a term that refers to a specific kind of
Minor Gods, regardless of their gender. Goddesses are always someone who was born a mortal, and due to circumstances such as a god dying suddenly without an heir or even killing a god themselves, elevated to the position of one. Goddesses are also likely to be created when a god is without an heir and there is an immortal, for whatever reason that caused their immortality ignored, that can fill the role.
Reception
Goddesses are highly revered in society, and both respected and feared. This is entirely due to their birth as mortals and having to have earned the position as a god in some way. Often, the cultural impact of goddesses is far greater than that of gods of similar power due to the much higher respect and adoration given to them by mortals and other gods alike. Mortals generally will favor goddesses over other gods due to viewing them as more down to earth, relatable, and having personal experience with mortal plights.
Mortals are also known to give much more leeway to Goddesses in their failures, viewing them as being more worthy of forgiveness for their shortcomings. The mentality likely stems from the most famous goddesses, such as Soliairs, still being incredibly young and interpreted as not having yet grown out of their mortal mentalities, despite their ages.
Known Goddesses
Soliairs Taeyang. Soliairs became a goddess due to the god of cranes before them dying, along with their entire bloodline and all possible heirs. At the time, Soliairs had been made immortal by
Yung Pagoni, God of Peacocks and therefore was chosen before someone who was not. Soliairs was not given a choice in this matter, as it was urgent, and they later grew into the role.
Soliairs' heir,
Namen Lugal, is set to become another goddess, as neither of Soliairs' children are named their heir, so when he takes over the role from Soliairs, he will also be considered a goddess, as he was born mortal.
Novi, The Goddess of Orcas. Novi became a goddess by killing the previous God of Orcas, who was beached on the shore of her town. The god was weak and dying, having been gravely wounded by another god, and Novi's act was that of mercy. For this, the god gave her their power and made her a goddess.
Sekhmet, Goddess of Lions. Much like Novi, Sekhmet killed the god of lions before her, but rather than putting a god out of their misery, she had challenged them herself. Sekhmet had long since grown distrustful of the lion god's tactics and viewed them as cruel and unwarranted, and that their cult had been rife with corruption. She challenged the god to a fight, where if she had won, the god would step down, and if she lost, allow for them to kill her for the insult. Surprisingly enough, Sekhmet had won, and was subsequently made a goddess.
Svrar, Goddess of Tigers. Svrar's family served the long line of tiger gods for decades, until xir predecessor was unable to produce an heir. Xir predecessor passed the mantle onto Svrar upon xir ascension to being his high priest peacefully, and Svrar has been in the role as the Goddess of Tigers for centuries since, embodying the roles, titles, and expectations set by the previous bloodline.
