The Court of Overseers
The Court of Overseers is the judicial system within the governing body of Centuron. Its main point of office is in the castle within the capital, Solcity, but the court has many offices and stations throughout the kingdom. The regal court looks over important matters of state. Managing the laws and order of Centuron.
When cases are brought to the attention of the Court of Overseers, the standing judge of the office deems whether or not to call a commune of justices. If the commune is called, an odd number of justices meet to review and discuss the case. In the regal court, communes typically contain seven justices, whereas some of the ill-equipped offices only contain five or even three. During the reviewal, the justices will dispatch inspectors when answers are required. Inspectors look for evidence pertaining to the case. Evidence that often requires the inspectors arresting individuals and delivering them to the court office.
Individuals brought to office are often subjected to trial. The communing justices station themselves around the suspect. Each justice, a magical adept, casts a zone of truth ritual centered on themself. Encircling the indicted, as well as their neighboring justices. This formation, often called a "courted star", was determined by the Crowned Commandant to be the least likely to suffer corruption of justice. Not only is the accused unable to lie, but in addition each justice is held accountable by their neighbors.
Despite this preventative measure, corruption still flows through, or rather halts the judicial process. Justices that have fraudulent or otherwise nefarious arrangements often work to prevent cases from reaching a commune. Especially if a trial would reveal their unethical intentions. The Crowned Commandant has been publicly vocal about rooting out and abolishing corruption within the government. However, many reports go unnoticed as many citizens must submit them to the Court of Overseers. Leading to further distrust in the governmental body and judicial process.
