2022/04/20: Meeting Budo and Visiting the Rift Report

General Summary

Knight, Ruby, Sunderfury, Eldrin, Sith, Kenju, Reela   The ghost from last time was General Du-Shen. His blade is the axiomatic blade of purification. His armor is some sort of adaptable suit that changes based on the wearer. We gave the armor to Kenju. Eldrin is keeping the blade.   We decided to go and meet Kenju’s father so our mages could regain access to their highest-level spells. On the way there, we encountered a small army of glowing blue armored horses, one of which was being ridden by an armored warrior with a lance. They were trotting along in the canopy level of the forest. The warrior is Jin Uzamara. He has a herald who is a young woman monk, Tomaki Hizari. The rest of the party appears to be a variety of samurai paladins and spellcasters. Ruby and Sunderfury acted as a forward diplomatic party and talked to the herald.   After some talking, Sunderfury and Tomaki sparred. Tomaki is ridiculously fast and won soundly.   Then we met Kenju’s father, Budo. He’s an absolutely enormous dragon made of nature. In exchange for granting our spellcasters power, he wants access to the lamp for several hours along with three unspecified items of power from inside the rift that is the source of the chasm. He plans to use the Emerald Lamp to seal the rift more fully. He would also like to know who holds the lamp.   He wants Kenju to get out more and do more human things, so we’re planning to bring him with us when we head back across the continent.   We ran into a magic-eating red flail snail. When Knight attempted to drain its Wisdom, it seemed to be draining a connection to something else instead. We’re not sure what.   We arrived at the Rift. There were more flail snails, some of which were blue. There were apparently purple ones there previously, but all of those are dead. The blue ones can absorb all supernatural attacks, including magic weapons. The red ones seem empowered by slow effects and have some horrible corrosive slime coating?   We rescued “The Rift Guardians” from where they were trapped in “their box” in the first cave we entered. They had been trapped by a previous group of adventurers. They offered information and said we could use their cave as a safe spot. They are a pair of small fairy creatures that speak in unison. They are apparently slowly reincarnating a number of adventurers who died in the rift.   There are dreadlords in the rift, mostly undead. There are shadowy souls of adventurers who have come before, which protect it from new adventurers. There are large insectoid beasts called rift crawlers that attempt to pull people off bridges into the rift below. There are swarms of smaller ghosts of various animals that try to destroy trespassers. The latter can be driven off by energetic area effect spells or warding by the faithful.   The Rift Guardians want “dream emeralds” that are carried by some powerful creatures in the rift. They’ll grant us a wish for each emerald we return with.
