Garrek Bardinson
Garrek Bardinson
A dwarven ironbreaker with either abysmal navigational skill, terrible luck, a curse, or a covert determination to never, ever return home.
Physical Description
Apparel & Accessories
Garrek is almost universally seen wearing a full suit of heavy plate armor made of an especially resilient material called gromril. The helmet, in typical ironbreaker style, includes an extra faceplate extension intended to protect Garrek's beloved beard.
Garrek carries a large shield, a one-handed axe, a maul, and a heavy flamethrower-like device he calls a Drakegun.
Specialized Equipment
Garrek's Drakegun is a magical weapon the size and shape of a small cannon that Garrek carries with surprising ease. The weapon, after one to three seconds of charging, projects a continuous cone of flames capable of knocking targets back and setting them alight. The more the weapon is used, the more it heats up, intensifying the flames but increasing the risk of overheating and backfiring on its wielder.

Personal history
Definitive answers about Garrek's history are in short supply. It is known that he comes from a dwarven mountain stronghold, and his matching and well-crafted heavy armor and weapons imply that he was an elite soldier or shock trooper in his people's military.
The story of why he left home and how he got to Thesk, however, changes every time he tells it; one day he'll say he was cut off by an assaulting army and got lost while finding a way around, while the next day he'll say he fell through a portal while mining.
Garrek claims to be trying to find a way home, but he refuses to give his home's name or location even to spellcasters who might be able to transport him there. Perhaps he wants to prove himself by making it there on his own two feet. Perhaps he was exiled, and doesn't want those he meets to know of his dishonor. Perhaps his home was destroyed. Or perhaps he's been wandering for so long that he no longer remembers these details himself.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Garrek Bardinson is utterly mercenary. He works for pay, whether that's money, supplies, or items that can be sold for more money. You don't pay him, he's not helping with your cause. That said, once he has agreed to a contract, he will see that contract through to the end as long as the other party does the same, and he cannot be dissuaded by bribes; his honor demands nothing less.
Garrek's terms are known to be very reasonable when working with adventurers; a full share of the loot is enough for him in most adventures, as long as there's an expectation that the adventure will provide some valuable reward.
A gruff dwarf soldier bearing heavy armor and a flamethrower. Highly mercenary, but will meet the letter of the contract at all costs.
