Amitari

Amitari is the northern most prefecture of the Kahala Empire and northern most region of Okaluan. It is the ancestral home of the Ka'ani tribe, formalized as the warrior caste within the empire's caste system.

The prefecture is the most mountainous region of the empire and the coldest in Okaluan, pummeled by the cold northerly winds from the Hauauru Ocean. It also possesses the least amount of arable land, most of which lies on its eastern coast. These factors molded the Ka'ani natives into a hard, ingenious people. In the summer, they planted their meager crops and hunted, but in the fall, they raided to the south, into the lands of the Tohuna and Pu'anu as well as further south among the coastal villages of the Kua.

The same ruggedness that made Amitari such a challenge to live in also made it easy to defend. Venturing into the deep valleys of Amitari in search of vengeance was suicide. In the end, the Ka'ani did not succumb to strength of arms, but by the words of the prophetess Otahani. They became the first of the Kahala'i people aside from Otahani's own Tohuna tribe to pledge themselves to the Purifying Fire.

As part of the empire, the hakanu of Amitari now enjoy trade with the other prefectures which supplies food and other goods in abundance. Its industries are centered around the training of the empire's warriors and war engineers as well as the production and development of weapons, armor and machines of war, such as the lelemiki.
