Sarator Prime

Sarator Prime was the capital world of a pre-warp capable human civilization. An unnamed Rogue Trader and his roving war fleet burned Sarator Prime for blasphemies against the God-Emperor and the Machine Cult. Sporadic pockets of humans live in the ruins of the orbital hives and continent-spanning mega-canals. Some traders say that the Zanatovs missed some settlements elsewhere in the system, and fully functional examples of the inhabitants’ unhallowed science still exist, ripe for plunder.

Geography

Sarator Prime used to be a world of beauty with mountains, rivers, lush lowlands and oceans. Unfortunately this only lasted until the Imperium of Man once again arrived in the sector. A Rogue-Trader of unknown origin and dubious intent laid waste to this planet. Now all that remains are pockets of life barely surviving on a world that is smoldering and dying around them. Cracks in the planet's mantle release noxious, searing gases and molten rock as the planet shifts and strains. It is believed that some sort of prototype exterminatus missile was deployed here. Perhaps terraforming could be deployed to restore this planet to it's former reality but so far none have showed an interest in committing that amount of resources.

Ecosystem

The humans which had been transplanted here before the Horus Heresy had learned to live in relative harmony with the land finding renewable energy sources and no overly taxing their planet. The eco system post planetary apocalypse is in a constant state of flux but most floral and fauna have already died. The planet's ecosystem would need to be reengineered from the ground up, literally, if it was to ever become productive again.

History

These humans had begun to spread out into the system of Sarator but had not yet attained warp capabilities so they had no way of reaching other sectors. The Rogue Trader who is still unknown had dubious intent when he arrived. Claims of heretical technology was supposedly discovered in the system by the stray Rogue Trader and apparently he decided that it was too dangerous to the Imperium or for the Imperium and destroyed the surface of the planet by deploying a prototype exterminatus weapon that cracked the planets and burned most of the world away but did not completely destroy the planet wholesale.   It is rumored that small outposts and territories in the system survive with traces of the technology in question was still present. If these territories could be found potentially great profit could be made and potentially powerful technology could be classified and incorporated by the Adeptus Mechanicus.
