Outer City
The city of Drakkenheim was once surrounded by its stout city walls, but that was quite a long time ago. As the city continued to grow, it expanded outward in all directions. Now it covers more than double the area circumscribed by the city walls. The area within is known as the Inner City, and the area without as the Outer City.
Demographics
Once, the Outer City was home to thousands of people. Mostly humans, with minority populations of dwarves, elves, halflings, and gnomes. There were also a few of the less populous races like tieflings and ardlings. Now The Haze has made it all but uninhabitable. Monsters roam the ruins of the Outer City. The most commonly encountered are the Dregs, Garmyr, haze husks, and Ratlings. All these and more can be found on Outer City Random Encounters.
Districts
Moving clockwise from around the city walls starting from Castle Drakken, the districts of the Outer City are as follows. North of the King's Road is Blue Vale, an affluent neighborhood of sprawling manors. South of King's Road and north of the Drann River is Riverside. Once this district was known as a hub for artists who came to the city seeking wealthy patrons.
Next is the Upper East Side. Set on the south side of the Drann and the east side of the city. This was a densely populated working class neighborhood. Below that, to the south east of the city are the Spokes. Once a heavily commercial district, its proximity to the crater meant that is suffered massive damage on the day of the impact. Wedged between the Champion's Way and the Drann is Southtown. Mostly residential, the population of Southtown was very diverse, even having neighborhoods of homes built for the smaller races. Farther south, towards Emberwood Village, is Ashwood Heights. The Elf Ash tree growing here attracted many who wanted a balance of city life with the aesthetic of the countryside.
The area southwest of the city and north of the Drann River is Pilgrim's Row. The many taverns and inns here serviced those who came to visit the temples and cathedrals of Drakkenheim. To the west of the city was known as The Sprawl. It was one of the poorest areas of the city and source of the city's unskilled labor. It was bounded by Temple Road to the south, and Shepard's Way to the north. Lastly, north of Shepard's Way was Scholar's Grove. It was a middle class neighborhood of scholars and craftsmen.
