Vastaya
The Vastaya are a chimeric race of humanoids that are the descendants from enlightened mortals that took the power of the spirit realm into themselves known as the Vastayashai'rei. From the ferocious, bestial power to the foxlike allure, vastaya can look considerably different from one another, but they all share animal and human characteristics.
As much as many would hate to admit it, their race came about of a mixing of the Vastayashai'rei and humans with some tribes having stronger Vastayashai'rei heritage than others. While some may look at other "demi-human" races such as the Minotaur and Ironback as similar to Vastaya, there is an innate difference that separates them. All Vastaya have at least some sort of magic that runs through their blood from their Vastayashai'rei ancestry. While they might not develop it into their work, it is something that will always be a part of them.

Vastayan Identity
While the various named subraces are good for distinguishing player characters, Vastaya subraces only tend to be single out if they come from their tribes. Those that have mingled with society are usually just referred to in general as Vastaya. A lionlike Vastaya with no ties to the Kiilash tribes of Shurima would not identify as a Kiilash and may not even know much of anything about them and would just be seen as a Vastayan.Basic Information
Anatomy
Their appearance depends on the location in which they adapted and their animal spirit and they can be grouped into three categories:
- "Animal-like" Vastaya: clearly resemble animals, but are humanoid in body composition and bipedal.
- "Human-like" Vastaya: closely resemble humans, but have a modest level of animalistic elements such as fox ears, a tail, or feathers.
- Shapeshifters: have diluted Vastaya blood and tend to maintain a human appearance but are innately able to shapeshift into a more animal-like form. Some with a stronger bloodline can even take the form of other creatures for periods of time.
