Grand Goat Racing Stadium

The Grand Stadium in Silford is the largest goat racing arena in the city.

Structure

The Stadium is the shape of an oblong rectange, with two straight racing tracks with a divider in between, and turns in the either end. The seats for the audience line the two long edges of the stadium. All Citizens are allowed to buy tickets to the races, while foreigners and slaves need to be accompanied by a citizen. The audience capacity is 100 000, a third of the number of citizens in the city, witnessing to the popularity of the races.

The stadium also has stables used by the competing teams, Yellows, Blues, Greens and Purples, and independent racers, as well as various shops serving the audience.

Races

Regular races are organised in the Grand Stadium every five days, on the Firstday, and larger games on religious or state holidays. The largest races are held on the Anniversary of the City (1st of Firstmonth) and the Birthday of Naralte (10th of Thirdmonth). The main factions participating in the races are the Big Four, the Yellow, Blue, Green and Purple teams. Additionally privately owned chariots are also allowed to compete.   In addition to the races, various other shows are also organised on the stadium, such as swordsfighting, music and comedy.

History

It seems that the original racing arena in the city was situated closer to the modern center, where the Senate House now stands. This is evidenced by the Memorial Stele of 200 AFS, a monument recording a chariot race held to commemorate the birthday of the city, found while building the new Senate House. The original purpose of the Senate Square is still somewhat visible in its shape.

The original stadium seems to not have been in use after the fire of 290 AFS, and it was possibly relocated to its modern location because of it.
