War of Men

The Giant Wars was a series of prehistoric military conflicts in the last centuries or the Time of Wander. This article is of the first part of the conflict, before the Peace treaty of Farinos, known as the War of Men. Of the second part, see: Giant Wars.     The Giant Wars consisted of a series of conflicts between the humans and the Giants who were exercising rule over the people of the era, as well as between the different human factions of the time, and finally leading up to the banishment of the giants from the plains of Farensal and the Founding of Silford.

The most of the war was fought between the Highland Army, influenced by the Stone Giants, and the lowlanders affiliated with the Forest giants.

Prelude

The Wood Giants had been ruling the human tribes of the plains for centuries, while the Stone Giants exercised their control on the highlands. They were a violent race, and enjoyed competing and fighting each other, thus leading the human tribes into a constant war against one another.   The Highlanders were proud of being the last human free from the direct control of the giants, although their cities were subservient to the Stone Giant cities and were paying a tribute to them. After the settlement of their first fortified cities, they started spreading their influence towards the lowlands, "freeing" the lowland people. In the fear of the newcommers taking the pastures and hunting grounds, the lowlanders sought help from the giants, who promissed to protect them from the invaders.

Progression

The highlander were victorious in their advance, because they were better organised and had superior weapons of highland bronze, that the Stone Giants were supplying for them. The lowland tribes were one by one forced to retreat towards Farinos (Silver Stream). But they would not give up, but gathered all able men in order to keep their lands.

Turn of events

The biggest turn of events was, when one of the highland commanders, Farinwél, under the influence of his advisor and his twin brother (Daursan and Kauteirin) decided to try and unite the human forces together, and rather drive all the giants out of the land. Kauteirin had been fighting for the highlanders, while his twin brother had ended up on the lowlanders' side, and the unification of the brothers by chance helped the armies to see they were fighting a pointless war against their brothers.

The humans then sought the help of the Divines. Áfawarsal the Weaver gave them the Rope of binding to capture the giants, and the Lord of the Underworld Ulalte helped them to get Uçinyarr Blade that had the terrifying killing powers of Greystone. With these divine artifacts they were successful in defeating the giants, and driving them far to the north and east.

Aftermath

The successful human rebellion lead into founding of the first free human cities on the Lowlands.
