Buck's Leather House

No one knows how to work leather like Buck does. He'll make anything you ask, as long as you provide the raw materials. Its tough coming by that stuff, and he only works with the genuine article. Hates using that alchemical garbage. Anything with skin can be leather. He'll pay full value for any skins collected with a check result of 20 or higher.   He no longer goes out adventuring himself, on account of an injury he suffered to his leg. It only becomes apparent when he walks that he drags his right foot. If he had to run it wouldn’t work out in his favor. So he has a keen interest in people bringing him back materials. So much so that he keeps an array of skinning knives on display and for sale at discounted rates.

Buck’s Leather House

Buck’s Leather Knife

Artisan Tool

Common

Crafted from chitinous steel this small blade is the perfect implement for skinning beasts, aberrations, monstrosities, and dragons. Buck has had these crafted exactly to his specifications. After decades of leather working he’s designed the ideal knife to replace the one in a standard set of leatherworking tools.

Anyone with this knife can attempt to collect skins, but it is not a complete set of leatherworker’s tools, only allowing for the collection of skins to later be delivered to Buck. Any skins collecting using this knife will be worth more to Buck, rather than paying in gold he will pay in Luminous Sapphire Marks based on the size and affect of the skin.

Size Payout
Small 1 Mark
Medium 2 Marks
Large 4 Marks
Huge 10 Marks
Gargantuan 20 Marks

This fingernail sized currency is crafted from Luminous Sapphire and gives a soft glow. Makes counting them easy even in the dark and difficult to counterfeit with most illusions. The dust can be inlaid into all manner of armors, weapons, jewelry, and leather goods and can cause the object to shed low light in a 10ft radius.

Each Mark is valued at approximately 10gp, but they are not available for purchase on the open market at value, when purchased rather than rewarded, expect them to cost 20-40% more.

Cost: Valued at 10 gp, purchasable for 12-14gp each

If a friendship is forged with him, he will become willing to devote time to crafting some leather goods uniquely suited to life below.

Buck’s Leather House

Dino Go Bag (Recipe)

Wondrous Item

Uncommon Transmutation

Buck has heard rumors of great and Terrible Lizards that live within the Unders. Although it sounds ridiculous, he swears he saw some with what look like feathers. If they can provided for him, he would be able to use them as part of his leathercrafting to make a Go bag, indispensable to anyone on the run in in a world of cracks, crevices, and bottomless pits.

Recipe. Gonna need some dinosaur feathers

Dino Go Bag (item) While wearing this backpack you can carry an additional 10 pounds above your usual carrying capacity. When you fall, you may pull a leather cord to extend the feathers as a Reaction and negate the first ten feet of falling damage, while gliding forward up to 15 feet in a straight line. The cord can be reset with an action.

Slithleather Boots (Recipe)

Wondrous Item

Rare Transmutation

The fearsome Slith is a deadly foe, so hope to never encounter one. But if one is so unfortunate as to fight one and somehow survive the fresh hide can be reclaimed (with a DC 14 Leatherworker's with Wis or Survival check within 1 hour of the Slith's death) and worked into leather. This leather is incredibly supple and emulates the natural stone surfaces of the Slith's environment.

Recipe. The freshly collected skin of one Slith can be cured over 2 weeks time using the leatherworking facilities at Buck's House of Leather. The process requires 600gp worth of Deepsalt to make an appropriate brine and treatment for the skins. To make the buckles and clasps will require a DC 15 Blacksmith's Tools check using Strength to work the metal of your choice with 250gp worth of Monstrous Chitin. This takes 1 week of downtime per attempt.

Once tanned and prepared Buck will require your assistance for six weeks to do the intense leatherworking required to imbue magic into the boots. You can make 3 Leatherworking checks with Wisdom per IRL week. Once you have seven successes of 16 or more the boots are completed. You may gain advantage on the check if and only if you or a friend casts Pass Without Trace twice a day as part of the process.

Slithleather Boots (item). When you wear these boots, your steps make no sound, regardless of the surface you are moving across. You also have advantage on Stealth checks that rely on moving silently. The boots float ever so slightly from the ground. Tremorsense no longer automatically detects you, however you have a -15 penalty on your Stealth check against it.
