Barruj (BAR ROUGE)
the Ruler and Ruled
Barruj is the Mij'esian god of control over others. He is the patron of rulers and despots, but also a reminder that too much power leads to a fall. Along with his sister, Ixsoi he is said to be a civilization god and embodies the mix of virtue and vice that define the Mi'jesian concept thereof.

Tenets of Faith
Key to the worship of Barruj, like most other Mi'jesian deities is balance. Control over others grants one power and wealth, but too much of it breeds resent and rebellion; the leaders of Mi'jes are ever reminded that they, while powerful, are few and the lesser castes are many.

Personal history
It is said that when the First Emperor of Mi'jes was but a child he came upon the Golden Godess bathing. As she prepared to tear out his eyes he boldly spoke to the goddess: "Stay your hand, for I shall claim you one day, and it ill befits you to have a husband so mutilated." The Goddess taken aback by his boldness told him she would lay with him only if he built her a temple of gold that reached the sun. And so when when the great temple city of Aj'aji was built the goddess appeared before him as Ahisa, the bride, and bore him many children, the first of which was born full divine from a golden egg.
