Sons of the Black Sword
Organization History
The Mercenary company called Sons of the Black Sword are what remains of an Imperial company of the same name, created by the mad emperor Dracarius (father of Emperor Huwon) with powerful alchemic treatment.
In his folly Dracarius tried to create the “Ultimate Warrior” with alchemical treatment, potion injection and other strong magical aids. They acquired a real immortality (if they are not killed in battle and have enough alchemical fluids).
Hundreds of soldiers of the Immortal Guard (the personal guard of the emperor) were subjected to these experiment and only less than a hundred survived to become Sons of the Black Sword. They remained for centuries the backbone of the Immortal Guards.
Sersi the Slayer was their first commander, and has received from the hand of the emperor a magical sword of pure black color, which gives him the ability to become invisible in the shadows or during the night. The sword is a symbol of the company, and is known as the "Black Sword". When a commander dies this sword is inherited by the successor.
The Sons of the Black Sword are feared in battle for their fighting prowess, but also for their suspicious natures and cruel methods. Indeed, some consider them "ruthless mercenaries", who do not hesitate to use any means to achieve their goals.
Despite this, the company is highly respected and coveted, thanks to their reputation for being among the best fighters on the entire continent. Often they are hired for particularly dangerous missions, which require extraordinary skills and strength.
Actual Situation
The Sons of the Black Sword are an independent mercenary company, but have worked with different armies and kingdoms in the past, depending on the occasion. However, they are known to always keep a certain distance from those who hire them, and to have no set alliances.
After the fall of the Phan empire in the Great Crusade, many of the company's survivors decided not to follow their ex-emperor in his escape and disbanded, becoming free mercenaries. However, some loyalists of Sersi the Slayer chose to stay together and keep the company name.
The Sons of the Black Sword are now known for their fighting prowess and ruthless attitude. They are often hired on missions that require a high level of expertise and are considered too dangerous for other mercenary companies. Their current commander is Sersi's son, known as Kael the Invisible, who inherited his father's magical sword and continues to lead the company with the same vengeful spirit and determination that characterized his creation.
Notable Members
Sersi the Slayer - The first commander of the Sons of the Black Sword, he was an officer of the Immortal Guard and chose to voluntarily undergo the painful alchemical procedure to become an "Ultimate Warrior". He was given the Black Sword by the Emperor, and served the Emperors (Dracarius, Huwon and Jien) faithfully for 5 centuries, but when the Phan nobles fled the Great Crusade he and the Immortal Guard were denied access to the Phan airships and they were left to die with the slaves and soldiers of the Mighty Army. Sersi survived and saved as many Immortals as possible and with them created the mercenary company of the Sons of the Black Sword.
Kael the Invisible - Technically the son of Sersi the Slayer, as he inherited the alchemical apparatuses when Sersi died in combat. Kael was an orphan raised in the mercenary company, where he rose to the rank of deputy commander. When Sersi died, he chose to have the apparatus of his adoptive father implanted in order to continue to lead the company.
Locations & Resources
Actually they have returned in the territory of the The Almighty Empire, they are excavating and exploring an abandoned reseach center thet is thought to have something to do with their creation.
At the moment the main obstacle to the development of the mercenary company is the lack of alchemical apparatus, which was slowly lost due to losses in combat, malfunctions and simple attrition. If the Sons were to somehow find other apparatuses or even discover the method of their realization, they would become a powerful group in the politics of Valenor.
