The Ancient Myths
The Gods who were, and sometimes still are, worshiped by some strange cultists.
Little is known of the Ancient Myths, only that they were defeated by the The Gods of Valenor and banished to the Void - the darkness among the stars - where the inhabitants of Valenor believe that true madness exists. The few beings who can survive in the vast, cold emptyness of space are too alien to be understood by the frail minds of beings of flesh and blood.
Of their power little is the current knowledge, some ancient tomes bring the idea that without the continuous vigilance of the New Gods, they could still re-emerge and cause the end of the known world and the races that populate it.
The Gods who live in the Void, known as Ancient Myths, form two categories, to the extent that such chaos can be classified: the Outer Gods and the Great Old Ones. The Outer Gods are equivalent to true deities, while the Great Ancients are less powerful: more like demigods, like archdevils and demon lords. The Great Ancients respect the Outer Gods and can sometimes serve as their heralds or high priests. For mortals, however, the differences between the cults of the gods of both categories are practically meaningless, so much so that they are powerful and alien.
The ancient and mysterious horrors of the Void are beings of immense power who, fortunately, have shown little interest in Valenor and his size. If the Ancient Myths devoted even a portion of their attention to this corner of space, it could very well end the existence of any mortal. While some crazed cultists and power-hungry arcanists contact aspects of these cosmic beings in hopes of harnessing their cyclopean might for their own purposes. No one can really control the raw chaos that these forces embody, destruction and madness are the only results they get.
Ancient legends speak of the mysterious coven of the Hidden Dominion and their possible connection with the enigmatic Old Kingdom of Hegnor. The members of the Dominion still serve as emissaries and heralds of their unknowable masters and are said to reside in the darkness among the stars, supported by the same forces that drove them to madness. Other races populate the Void, fighting each other to win the favor of the Ancient Myths, to whose will they are completely subjected.
Most of those familiar with the Void assume that its inhabitants reside at unimaginable distances in the vacuum of space and can no longer influence the world of Valenor. This is Wrong.
In fact one of these races of beings has built an empire under their feet, the Mind Eaters of the Shadow World, is a race from the Void that came to Valenor millennia ago.
What their final goals and motivations are, still remain a mystery that only the bravest or craziest souls dare to ask themselves questions about.
Similarly, it is speculated that the giant tentacled creatures known as the Star Spawn may have come from one of the most remote corners of this dark universe.
