Eio
A sea side manufacturing community of about 300,000 on Shanxi. Several workshops and small factories produce goods necessary for both Caretaker and Human life alike. Additionally, they process a large amount of waste and scrap, some salvaged from the nearby ruins, and some trawled form the floor of the Biwa sea.
A highly creative and artistic community, a culture around the creation of impromptu scrap-art pieces around the city has arisen. While not strictly legal, city managers often turn a blind eye to the projects. Usually, individual pieces will stay up for a week at most, but ones that are particularly meaningful to the people can remain for months, or even become established as permanent fixtures. Their durability in Eio's tropical climate is owed to the mechanics, architects, and engineers that are often hired to assist in these projects.
The most famous of these permanent pieces is in Eio's business and manufacturing center. A 20 foot tall sculpture made of hull metal and rebar, what has become known as Handshake depicts a Caretaker figure pulling a Human form a mound of rubble. The artist was never identified and the original intent of the sculpture never explained, interpretation has settled on the sculpture depicting Eio's founder, a Caretaker known as G.E. , bringing the remaining humans of the surrounding ruins up from poverty and starvation.
Eio's population split is similar to the common Shanxi population, about a third Human and two thirds Caretaker.
