Tangah (TONG-ga)
A world of heavy industry that produces a majority of the postech technology and products used in the Asmara Region. The world is largely tundra, with a single supercontinent near the northern pole. Its seasons range from just above freezing in the summer, to well below freezing in the winter.
Some of the surface is heavily modernized, a portion covered in the Capital Metropolis. The metropolis is divided into many smaller provinces and boroughs, but the whole is colloquially known as the CapMet.
Dozens of factories dot the CapMet, each an amalgam of Pretech and Postech technology, capable of adjusting their assembly lines and output to the demands of the market.
The people of the CapMet are largely working class. It's filled to the brim with factory workers, craftsmen, transporters, and as many hard labourers as you could imagine. Labour groups are known to be outsourced to other planets in the Federation, as well as to the trade corps, but the majority of them are required to keep up with Tangah’s incredible goods production.
While the image of the proud worker is prominent in Tongan propaganda, the life of the Tangan worker is less than stellar. A large population and infrequent easily accessible work means Tangans often have to compete for contracts with low pay, and there are many who have to make due with less.
Tangans are also some of the least represented in the Federation. Because of a cap on the representatives that can be assigned per system built into the House of the federation Seat, a Tangan vote is only a fifth as represented as a vote anywhere else in the federation.
The Tangan ruling body is a group of labour and goods magnates that form a hegemony over the majority of the populace. They work with the Federation to determine the needs of the member systems, to be manufactured and exported accordingly.
History
Before the Scream, multiple cities on the scale of the CapMet dotted Tangah's surface. Factories like the ones that make up Tangah's industry were commonplace, and were almost completely automated. The psitech that made up the majority of that technology became inert after the Scream, and thus the inhabitants of Tangah were left largely without a means to produce the necessities of life. While the survivors of the calamity struggled, a few opportunistic minds developed the basis of what would ultimately save Tangah's population. An abundance of engineering knowledge was available for the development of machines of mass production; As quickly as could be managed, the greatest of these minds formed around themselves companies capable of retrofitting the old pretech factories with new technology. These new fittings would only allow the return of a small fraction of the facilities original output, but it was enough. Each individual company's expertise was tested against the harsh reality of providing for a population that was far too large to be sustained. The first century after the Scream was marked by famine, disease, and the death of 60% of the planet's population. As the decades and centuries progressed, the populace became dependent on the companies - in exchange for labour, the companies agreed to provide for the people of Tangah. After 220 years of informal relationships and steady growth, the distinct majority of the population had conglomerated around a single metropolitan center; it was utilitarianly named the Capital Metropolis, and a formal legal agreement was formed between the now conglomerated companies. The agreement put in writing that the members of the new hegemony would advance the interests of Tangah, and put the needs of its people first. This marked the beginning of the control of the Tangan Hegemony.
