VD-1250 Volant

The VD-1250 Volant is a combat Dextra developed by Vindus Industries. Originally planned to be a fourth variant of the VD-1000 Vassal, this plan was scrapped when advancements in Flux Drive technology required a new frame to be built to withstand the amount of power that could now be generated. It was simultaneously lighter, faster, more maneuverable, and also better able to withstand damage than the Vassal models. It also upgraded the mono-eye camera of the previous generation to a more human-like two-eyed appearance, granting the pilot much improved peripheral vision.   The Volant was adopted early by "ace" Alliance pilots of the era, who took advantage of its enhanced performance to wreak havoc on the initially less advanced enemy forces. Despite its age, it is still considered to be a solid combat unit even by today's standards. Though it is now only rarely deployed by the Alliance defense forces, decommissioned units and parts are abundant enough and simple enough to repair that they are a frequent target of scavengers. The model has become a standby for mercenaries, pirates, and the like, who often add their own customizations.
