The War Board

Whilst, in the early days,The Arcanix concerned itself with the study of all manner of fields, magic was always one of its most controversial areas of research. Magic, at that time, was considered by human society to be the sole realm of the gods. In fact, before The Mourning, only very simple magics were accessible to the native races of Sfaíyra without divine favour. Nevertheless, The Arcanix wanted to push these simple magics to their absolute extreme and one of the most obvious applications was in warfare and battle. Not wanting any regular student to be taught such things, The Arcanix established The War Board as a sister organisation. The War Board quickly developed a fearsome reputation for developing and training its members in a wide and impressive array of tactics and techniques to utilise the simple cantrip as a deadly force. Time and time again, they proved themselves more than able to go up against even powerful mages of the Fey Folk or the monstrous races. For their part, they always claimed it was due to their marrying of absolute skill with the study and analysis of warfare as an art form; teaching their students in theoretical tactics as much as practical abilities. Whatever the source of success, The War Board has enjoyed its position as a prominent paramilitary group for a long time and played a crucial part in both The War of Heroes and The Last War. In times of peace their services can be bought just like any other mercenary but history has shown that in times of war, their ultimate loyalty tends to lie with Aundair.
