The Arcanix
It was among some of the best preserved Archon ruins this side of the Icehorn Mountains that The Arcanix was founded. The remnants of the ancient civilisation called to those who sought to understand the world around them and the crumbled walls and pillars laid the foundation for the vast university that was built around it.
For most of its history, The Arcanix was interested in the study of a large variety of subjects. The Arcanix has produced many of Sfaíyra's greatest historians, philosophers, mathematicians, natural scientists, politicians, economists and much more.
The study of the arcane was rather limited before The Mourning, limited as arcane magic was then to little more than cantrips for the native races of Sfaíyra. It was still studied and practiced of course and The Arcanix, over time, developed a branch more focused on the use of such magics for combat known as The War Board which Aundeir used extensively during both The War of Heroes and The Last War.
With the Mourning, the potential of the arcane grew exponentially and, with The Last War as a driving force behind the study and innovation, The Arcanix was at the forefront of pushing the boundaries of what was possible to the magic caster of the new age, no longer tied to their devotion and service of a god for their powers. Throughout the war, and ever since its closure, The Arcanix has continued to focus more and more on the study of magic, to the expense of its other, more traditional subjects. No longer though are such secrets for Aundeir only to keep. It was agreed in The Thronehold Concord that The Arcanix must take a certain percentage of new students each term from each of the nations.
Whilst unhappy to be constrained so in their selection process, The Arcanix agreed, believing that peace and a more open trade of knowledge might help them regain their position as the premier institution for knowledge of the arcane. It was only a few years before the end of the war that a group of powerful magus' had, in defiance of what they felt was their superior's increasingly restrictive measures, teleported a whole section of the university away and established The Tower: a venture which actively seeks to use their innovations and advancements in magic for financial gain.
Now, the university is run by Grand Thro Tumo Carnere, an Aundeir loyalist who is most uneasy about the continuing restrictions placed on Arcanix admittance by The Thronehold Concord. Still, hopeful mages and scholars flock to The Arcanix from all over Khorvaire, looking to prove themselves as the next generation's great minds.

Structure
Rank within The Arcanix is denoted by both the title by which one would be commonly addressed as while within its walls as well as by the colour of robe that one wears during classes and formal functions. The name for each is actually derived from elven due to the founder's admiration and desire to imitate the Fey folks seemingly natural mastery of magic.
Linta/purple robes: The title given to all students when they first start at the university, Linta means "see" in elven; referencing the universities expectation that, at this stage, they are to watch and learn from their teachers and superiors. The vast majority of students do not make it beyond this stage which has given rise to a common misunderstanding throughout Khorvaire that all at The Arcanix wear these purple robes; hence why attendees are colloquially called "purps".
Kar/grey robes: The title, meaning "do" given to those who have progressed beyond student by being adjudged by their superiors to have, in some way, moved on or improved mortal's understanding of the world around them. The difficulty of achieving such a feat can vary greatly depending on the subject being studied and it is not uncommon for a Linta to change to an obscure or less practiced subject only to improve their chances of "taking the grey".
Lian/black robes: Lian, meaning "master", is given to those who have demonstrably pushed forward the knowledge and understanding of the world across not just one subject but at least three. The rate at which scholars are achieving this rank is slowing down considerably.
Thro/red robes: It was a core part of the founders' belief that one has truly shown that they have mastery of knowledge of a subject when one has shown that they can teach it sufficiently that others come to master it to. Achieving Thro status, simply meaning "know", is done by having at least ten students under one's tutelage achieve something worthy of making them a Kar. Currently, there are only four Thro's. Tumo Carnere, despite being the youngest of these four, was voted in as Grand Thro upon the last's death.

From chaos, reason. From ignorance, understanding.
