Driver Engineer

Requirements

Complete several rigorous exams covering use and operation of the various fire apparatus.

Appointment

Appointed by the station's Fire Captain.

Duties

Responsible for maintaining and driving the fire apparatus. They are also responsible for maintaining and operating the fire pump and aerial ladder. In the absence of the lieutenant, may serve as "acting lieutenant."

Responsibilities

Daily maintenance of the fire apparatus/vehicle. Clean and maintain equipment after every call. Written review at the beginning and end of every shift. Be the fire station’s resident expert on the fire apparatus, and must know the vehicle forward and backward.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

A Fire Captain can recommend suspension or dismissal for any Firefighter. Final adjudication rests with the Fire Chief.
