Fire Recruit

Requirements

To apply as a firefighter for the N.E.F.D., applicants must:
  • be a citizen;
  • have a high school diploma or equivalent;
  • have a driver's license;
  • be at least 21 and not older than 35 on swear-in date
As part of the application process, potential recruits must:
  • pass a written aptitude test;
  • pass a physical agility test;
  • complete a mile and a half run;
  • complete a 100' ladder climb;
  • certify as an Emergency Medical Technician;
  • pass a psycological examination;
  • pass a medical examination;
  • pass a background investigation.
Further requirements as directed by Federal, State, and Local Laws.

Appointment

Hired by the N.E.F.D. as an "at will" employee, entry-level.

Duties

Complete Firefighter Training while assisting firefighters.

Responsibilities

Attend all mandated training events. Operate fire fighting equipment. Respond to emergencies.

Pay and benefits per the N.E.F.D. pay and benefits schedule.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

A fire recruit can be dismissed by a Fire Lieutenant or higher for any reason.
