The mountain's gift

The story has been told even before the Company existed, and it goes something like this:
Somewhere in the hearth of the mines, there is a treasure worth more than any riches: the Healing Dessert.   This luscious meal is a cure for any disease of the body or the mind. Not even heartbreak is too much for it to fix. It's a pitty that it is also almost impossible to adquire. It's not enough to dare to enter the mines, you need to do it alone and find the right tunnel, marked by blueish vines and dying roots.   Eventually, you find a natural well, next to wich you will find a dragon struggling to open his lunchbox. From then, is not rocket science: every story has told us that in those situations you are expected to help the stranger and you will be rewarded with they mythical treasure. In this case, you can get half of the dragon's meal and eat it to cure yourself or take it to the unwell loved one that didn't ask you to risk your life to save theirs.

Variations & Mutation

There are lots of different theories about where to find the Healing Dessert, several of them being related to the heart of the mountain. It's always a dangerous place, where you are most likely to get yourself killed than finding a cure for anything.   Some "serious people" has corrected this particular legend to make it more realistic for their own standars (you wouln't belive in how many worlds the talking dragons are nothing but a myth). Many parents have twisted it into a funny, cute story to teach their children how important is to help others.

Historical Basis

A story this old is always hard to track, and I have no idea from which world that dragon came, but he doesn't seem to be the kind that hates visits and the idea of sharing.   The idea of an hipotetical medicine that cures everything is not so uncommon, but the Healing Dessert is actually a food from one of the many worlds we are connected to. It was very common, back in the day, but now it's impossible to find. We know that it really cured any disease (from that world, at least) because they didn't know of sickness until they became unable to eat it anymore. They almost went extinct and their civilization suffered a terrible regression.   Yes, of course you can find it somewhere in the "forest", but not in any of the places I've heard in stories like this one. Don't go telling others, but Aye found it in a haunted house a long time ago. The dead in there are quite attached to it, treasure as they would treasure life itself. Maybe it represent's what they can't have, maybe they just like the smell. She said it smells like happiness, but I have no idea what that means.

Author's Notes

Now I want to write the children's tale version. And Aye's backstory, of course, but that's nothing new.   Extra Inspiration:

Delightful! Always nice when helping someone has positive effects. I also love the way that the myth has warped over time as people find different parts of it too unbelievable. But we know the truth. ;)
