Resource Acquisition
Where would our path of discovery be without the brave explorers that comprise Resource Acquisition? Stuck in one place, that’s what! These individuals are the ones that journey out of Sanctuary’s walls in search of the new and unknown. They are cartographers, hunters, scouts, botanists, anthropologists, xenobiologists, and… well, some say you have to be a little crazy to be one of them. To willingly leave the safety of Sanctuary and venture out into the often hostile environment of Auberon requires its own special qualities. Resource Acquisition has the highest mortality rate of all the departments.
Resource Acquisition has two main functional sides that often overlap and intersect, making the organizational structure confusing for anyone except Vlorg ver6.8. On one hand, you have the brave souls that regularly risk their lives to search for and bring back the resources Sanctuary so desperately needs to survive. This is known as the Advance Team. These are the scouts, the hunters, the explorers and the adventurers who don’t mind risking life and limb whilst searching for new discoveries that may help the settlement thrive. On the other hand, you have the people that mainly stay in the Resource Aquisition HQ in the Hospital Campus - the so called Home Team, consisting of those that are responsible for refining whatever the scouts bring back and find proper use for it.
The Advance Team functions in small groups usually put together right before they are sent out. Members are chosen both from the Advance Team and from the Home Team depending on the needs for each specific mission. Each group is assigned a leader, but the leader is expected to listen to and collaborate with the other members, as each is chosen for their particular expertise and can provide vital information. Oftentimes, the Advance Team collaborates with Security whenever needed, and there are established channels between the two Departments for this explicit purpose.
The Home Team mainly stays within the borders of Sanctuary, focusing their diverse competence both on refining whatever the Advance Team brings home into something useable, but also by putting their heads together with Research & Development, where they make lists of things both Departments need (or wish for). The Home Team is diverse, consisting of field biologists, anthropologists, geologists or the like. What sets them apart from Research and Development is that they are much more ready to brave the great unknown outside of Sanctuary’s safety, and often collaborate with the Advance Team out in the field.
Lastly, there is a small branch of Resource Acquisition that is often forgotten, and that is the one that is responsible for the Commissary. To be assigned as a worker at the Commissary is usually considered a great dishonour within the Department, as this is a sign that you have either proven yourself untrustworthy out in the field, or you have not proven yourself dependable or skilled enough to be part of either of the larger two teams. As such, Commissary staff tend to work with an air of disdain for the rest of the Department.
Vlorg insists on everyone meeting at Resource Acquisition at the crack of dawn every day they are on shift in order to receive their tasks for the day. No excuses. No daylight should ever be wasted - and once the sun is up, no electricity should be wasted at the HQ either. Thus, every light is automatically turned off once the sun is over the horizon, and the Home Team often have to reason with Vlorg to let them turn lights on in their offices during daylight hours.
At the moment, much of Resource Acquisition are left with nothing to do since the roads out of Sanctuary are closed. Despite this, Vlorg insists that everyone work their full shifts. For the Advance Team, this means daylight hours (from dawn until sunset), while the Home Team have a bit of a more flexible schedule, often working round the clock whenever needed. No matter what time of day a person works, though, they are always expected to show their face at the morning meeting!
