Emperor Of Dunor
The Imperial throne of Dunor is meant to be occupied by the male descendant of Asgal the Golden, the founder of Dunethel, and the Empire at large. Over the years there has been some controversy regarding this, but the current emperor can trace his lineage back to Asgal, if somewhat indirectly.
Appointment
The emperor must be a male heir of the previous emperor, though there have been 2 Empresses since the time of Asgal, so this rule, while technically a requirement, has been ignored in the past, and could be again in the future. The emperor himself usually chooses his heir from among his children, and the two consuls of Dunor must sign off on this choice. If there is no male heir, the brothers of the emperor are next in line, though in the past, female heirs have taken precedence, thus making the exact choice of emperor or empress primarily up to the political machinations of the emperor and the consuls.
Duties
The emperor is the highest commander of all the armies of Dunor, as well as the governor of Dunethel and it's surrounding lands. These duties are usually shared with, or delegated to, the Imperial counsil, as well as the Imperial Consort (his wife).
