Emperor of Suihai

The Suihanese Emperor is the regent of Suihai, who have ruled there since the Dawning Epoch. They are sworn to protect the empire, and to enact the will of Yanlei, and in return they hold both the religious and worldly authority in Suihai.

Appointment

The Emperor or empress chooses their own successor, with no restrictions other than that the choice must be approved by Yanlei, which in practice gives the oracles of the Temple of Tears enormous power in the choice of regent. Male takes no presidence over female, and there have been almost as many empresses as emperors of Suihai over the years. Often the emperor chooses one of their own children, but it is in no way considered a hereditary title.

Duties

The emperor of Suihai is both the head of the Temple of Tears and of the lands of Suihai, and all must defer to their will, though in most cases they divide the day-to-day running of the provinces among lords and governors, and leave the running of the temples to the monks.
