Leer Hound

Leer hounds are a species of canine native to central Sildair, that have been adopted by Thualian goblins as livestock. They are medium sized omnivores who eat mostly meat, preferring carrion to live prey, but they can and do hunt in packs, similar to the tactics of wolves. They are ill-tempered and foul-smelling, but they do not tend to attack humanoids unless they are desperate, or the humanoid is alone and vulnerable.

From early in the Golden Epoch goblins and leer hounds have been found side by side, and today they can be found over most of Sildair as domesticated guardian and pack animals, as well as mounts of goblins. Leer hounds are too small to be used by creatures larger than goblins as mounts, but orcs and others who trade with goblins might still keep leer hounds as pets, war hounds, guard dogs or pack animals.

Training leer hounds is a difficult and dangerous affair, but it is possible to get them to be more or less tame, and training a leer hound to be ridden is even more difficult, and something that only goblin trainers have perfected in any organized way. It is also possible to train leer hounds to pull a sled, something that many tribes on the Thualian Barrens take advantage of.
