Therium

After a long and arduous war, Humans were able to win their freedom. They carved their own home out of land won from the Elves and the Dwarves. They showed that, through perseverance, you could attain anything, even against all odds. This land became known as Therium, and has grown to be a kingdom equally as powerful and successful as any other.

Structure

Therium is ruled by the Royal Family of Therium. The same family has ruled the kingdom since its beginning; with the death of Cyn, the newly-liberated humans were led by the second-in-command, Gaius Verulus. The current King or Queen is also assisted by a counsel of advisers selected by them. Cities and towns across Therium are ruled by their own dukes or lords, but everything is ultimately ruled by the King or Queen.

Public Agenda

Magic

In Therium, magic and magical abilities are fairly heavily regulated. This is rooted in the belief that, long ago, Cyn was struck down by a magic spell, ultimately killing her. Magic is seen as something that must be handled with extreme care and responsibility, as it can be a very deadly weapon in the wrong hands. While it generally isn’t hated by people, some people - especially those who cannot wield magic - are a bit fearful of it. In particular, magic not bestowed by a divine or natural source is especially regulated.   Those in Therium who are born with magical abilities, or those who wish to learn how to wield magic, must do so at the various Arcane Academies located in each city with a Font of Power. The name of every student is recorded in a magical database called the Codex Arcanum. Students are forbidden from practicing magic anywhere outside of their academy until they pass the Rite of Graduation, where they must prove they are both skilled enough to control their power, as well as strong-willed and morally good enough to not use their power for evil.   Additionally, mages that move and stay in Therium for extended periods of time must also be registered in the Codex Arcanum and pass the Rite of Graduation. Otherwise, they must provide official documentation to prove that they are only temporarily staying in Therium. Foreign mages may voluntarily visit any Academy to undergo the Rite. If they pass, they will be presented with an Ornamentum Magus. If they fail, they may choose to either be deported back to where they came from, or to remain as a student at the Academy until they pass.

Demography and Population

Therium is mostly inhabited by Humans, though Elves and Dwarves can be found living here in notable numbers. Individuals of other races can be found here in smaller numbers as well. In general, individuals of most races are welcome, but there is some stigma and discrimination against “evil” races, such as tieflings or orcs.

Religion

In Therium, the normal Forgotten Realms deities are worshipped. The various lawful and good deities are more commonly worshipped by the people, though there may be hidden sects or cults devoted to the darker or evil deities scattered across the land. While not every citizen of Therium is incredibly devout, most at least casually believe in the gods. One thing that most citizens believe is that Cyn was an avatar of Illmater, and to this day is still revered as a great religious figure. There is a sect of religious warriors that have been sanctioned and selected by both the royal family and the highest ranking clergy in Cynhall known as the Tutors.

Foreign Relations

In general, Therium is a liked and respected Kingdom. Despite its bloody inception, the kingdom of Therium has positive relations with nearly all other kingdoms in Sirnetsk. Generally, the flow of information and goods between kingdoms is open. The only kingdom that Therium has rocky relations with is Vaaler'nia. This is mainly due to the implied creation and link with Vaaler'n, as well as the other kingdom's view of magic and how it should be used.
