What we understand under a soul is far too simple. Several layers of a soul must be taken into consideration. A soul in general gives life and personality. It is the universal energy in the galaxy that differs life from lifeless matter like rocks. A soul can not be destroyed and exists outside our space-time.

Soulrealm

The soulrealm was once a calm and peaceful plane between the universes. It existed outside of our space and our reach and yet influenced everything by giving life into the universe. The War in Heaven changed this peaceful plane and threw it into chaos. At the peak of the war, the amount of Life-Souls that were sent back to the soulrealm was too much for the Core-Souls to handle. The soul energies that could not be absorbed quickly enough became chaotic and uncontrollable. The great chaos tinted the soulrealm pink and created what we know as the Pink Mist.

Core-Soul

A Core-Soul is the eternal, timeless, and spaceless part of your soul. It can never be destroyed and is the same overall incarnation of your life. A core soul is not directly involved in your life tho, as that is the role of the Life-Soul. The Core-Soul creates Life-Souls to influence the material universes and to collect energy from them. After a life ends, the Life-Soul comes back to its Core-Soul and is absorbed by it, becoming a part of the Core-Soul. This process takes around a week and during this time, it is still possible to reincarnate the dead, after this absorption, life cannot be restored like it was before. Normally a Core-Soul has only one Life-Soul active at once, but it can have multiple ones. This is sometimes the case with very powerful and old Core-Souls, that have the energy to give it out to several Life-Souls at once. Creating a Life-Soul is an investment for a Core-Soul. It gives the Life-Soul soul energy and sends it out to create life. At the end of life, the Life-Soul will have grown and collected more energy than it required for its creation. Very powerful and old Core-Souls may create a single, extremely potent Life-Soul with nearly all its soul energy. Such a strong Life-Soul can become a true god.

Life-Soul

What the material beings in the universes generally understand under the term soul is a Life-Soul. It is created from a Core-Soul and sent out to connect itself to a newborn to give life and meaning. All natural beings have a living soul attached to themselves, like people, animals, trees, and even bigger fungi networks. Very simple lifeforms like bacteria or single cells have no soul, especially if they work together to create more complex life and are just a part of the greater being. A Life-Soul collects and emits energy during its time in the material universe. Some species call this soul energy the life force, or vitality. Other Life-Souls can absorb the emitted soul energy from other souls to fuel their energy. The energy that a Life-Soul can emit is endless and regenerate itself over time. By emitting energy, the Life-Soul strengthens itself, increasing the maximum capacity of its soul energy and with it the amount that regenerates in a certain period of time. Most powers, which are often categorized as magic or unnatural abilities that defy the laws of physic, use soul energy. The Balloon Void and other similar planes work exactly like this, by absorbing the soul energies of the ones that are trapped within them.
The Life-Soul also holds all memories and experiences of a living being. When it is eventually reabsorbed by its Core-Soul, the memories are also absorbed and become part of the greater Core-Soul, influencing it and all future Life-Souls. Strong memories, like a life ending in an especially painful way, can cause unexplainable fears in future lives that came from the same Core-Soul, like the fear of drowning. Very powerful Life-Souls can follow their connection to their Core-Souls to gain access to memories of their past lives.

Fusion-Soul

A Fusion-Soul is a very special Life-Soul that was created by connecting Life-Souls of different Core-Souls. The newly created Fusion-Soul has no connection itself to the material world and depends on the connected Life-Souls to allow it access to our universe. The connection is unstable and rarely lasts longer than some weeks. Once a Fusion-Soul is created, it lives as long as its connected Life-Souls exist. With the end of the lives of the Life-Souls, the Fusion-Soul is split and absorbed by the connected Core-Souls. A Fusion-Soul has not only access to the energy of a single Life-Soul but of 2 or even more. This results in an extremely powerful being, often able to use powers that defy common sense. A life that results out of the fusion of two or more beings is generally called a Fusion.

Lost-Soul

Sometimes, when new life is created and a Life-Soul is split from its Core-Soul to give this newborn true life, it goes wrong. The connection could either simply not be established, the newborn dies before the connection are strong enough, or something else interfere with the building of the connection. Such Life-Souls that are split from their life at such an early stage can't return to their Core-Souls. Instead, they will wander through the soulrealm, through the Pink Mist to search for something to connect to, something to give life. Such a lost soul has no feel for time and won't have memories of its travel through the soul realm. The lost soul will absorb the chaotic energies of the soulrealm over its time spent without a connection. Normally such energies are emitted again, but without a connection to the material world, the energies can't be emitted and slowly corrupt and change the lost soul.

Naaby

If a lost soul connects itself to a being that already has a soul, then we call that lost soul a Naaby. A Naaby won't take over the body but will try to live in harmony with the already existing soul. In the best case, this is a symbiotic relationship that strengthens both sides and gives both a good life. If the two sides can't work together, it can become complicated and dangerous for both, as once a lost soul has become a Naaby, the connection can't be cut again. People that are possessed by a Naaby are called Caudian.

Golem

If a lost soul connects itself to a formerly lifeless object, then we call it a Golem. A golem is alive by all our understandings, yet it is completely fueled by the energies of the Pink Mist. The stronger the lost soul was and the more time it had to spend traveling through the pink mist, the stronger the golem could be. Golems can either be created naturally, by a lost soul finding its way into the material world through a fissure in the universe, or they can be created by others, forcefully injecting pink mist energies into a lifeless object and having the luck or the skill to inject a lost soul with the pink mist energies.
The variety of golems is high. It can be a very simple life form like a big moving rock golem, or it can even be an object that seems to have a will on its own like a sword or a ring. Stronger lost souls can create stronger golems and only the strongest create golems that can't be differentiated from naturally born beings. In some cases, the creation of such a powerful golem can result in the creation of a golem species and not only a singleton artifact or being. Examples of such powerful golem species are Plush Dogs and Rubber Genies.
