Ravna
A town in the central and western parts of the Eastern Archipelago, Ravna is, as of now, one of the towns that has been able to maintain a measure of neutrality in the face of the strife engulfing the Tescaries. Founded centuries ago on the isle of Vulca-Ramthia, the town has in the past been jointly administered by the chiefs and elder councils of Feru, Lulia, and Svea. Holding some of the more arable land in the archipelago, Vulca-Ramthia is one of the more densely populated islands in the Tescaries. Today, Ravna has a permanent population of over three thousand thanks to the growth of the original three clans as well as settlement by various displaced clans and clanless folk.
The structure of Ravnani society is gradually disentangling itself from its clan-based roots. Due to increased amounts of clanless Tescarana as well as settled and semi-settled foreigners, the city runs on a more monetary economy than is typical for a Tescarana settlement. Possessing an oversized port market, Ravna draws trade from throughout the archipelago as people come to the town to buy and sell.
Government
The town is ruled by the elder councils and chiefs of the three founding clans, the clans of Feru, Lulia, and Svea. Though in the past, the clans have agreed to mobilize their manpower for various works, these days the town has many inhabitants that are not members of any clan, and the town runs on Confederation Dinar as well as the social ties of the three founder clans. Consequently, while the three clans still perform public works projects, they have begun to tax the use of the port. They have also instituted a "door tax" levied on any resident of the town that is not a member of the founder clans. Though unpopular among the immigrant clans and the clanless, the three ruling councils contend that they can only command the resources of their own clans, and must fund the infrastructure used by others in some way.
Defences
The three founder clans remain cohesive enough to muster militia when needed, and the councils keep a few warriors under arms permanently due to the increasing security needs of the trading town. The town does not have walls or major fortifications, except for a sturdy lighthouse on the eastern side of the port. The Ravnani rely on their clan militias, their fleets, and their diplomacy.
Industry & Trade
The farmsteads of the Lulia, the trading fleet of the Feru, and the dye farms of the Svea form the baseline of Ravnan industry. Feru has historically been the most outward facing of the founder clans. In recent years, Ravna's central location has enabled it to benefit from the increased volume of trade, moving increasing amounts of sulfur as well as products coming from the Runberi coast.
Guilds and Factions
A large portion of the permanent population of Ravna belong to the Lulia, Feru, or Svea clans. These three clans provide the ruling clan councils and elect the three chieftains that jointly rule the town. The other two major groupings in the city are the clanless (not all of whom are actually clanless; some are still-intact small clans that are not part of the founding three), and the foreigners. The clanless are a constantly growing section of Ravnan society, even though some are able to marry into the founding three. Foreigners refers to any those residents that are not Tescarana and have their origins outside the islands. Many of these people settle in the town temporarily, and have no intention of putting down permanent roots.

Really interesting article. I like the origin came from clans.
