Acaren Monument
The Acaren monument is a stone circle around a large boulder carved in the image of a woman's face, hidden in a valley in the Central Fahrig Ridge. Extremely old, the site was lost for centuries before being found by a pastoral highland clan. Today, the monument is a place of pilgrimage, held by no clan in particular and having been left to nature for unknown centuries. Believed to depict the goddess Uni, the Acaren monument has a prominent place in Tescarana mythology. Believed to be the original home of the Tescarana, the place where the goddess Uni first created men in her image to inhabit the isles. In modern times, the site is visited by chieftains and nethvisi to pray for the goddess' aid or to interpret a particularly important omen.
History
The origin of the Acaren monument is difficult to ascertain for certain. It had been hidden in the valley for centuries, but its existence had been recounted in legend long before its discovery. The name "Acaren monument" comes from these same Tescarana legends that supposed the existence of the monument somewhere in the isles, accurately describing the structure. Believed to have been built by the first Children of Uni, the legendary Acaren is believed to have been the first Child of Uni who began the construction of the monument in her honor, and rather than leaving the site, stayed there to maintain it in her honor for the rest of his life.
Eventually, Acaren would die, clanless, and the descendants of the Children of Uni would forget the location of the Acaren monument. Nevertheless, the legend was passed on since time immemorial, committing the name Acaren to history. Eventually, in 298 the descendants of Thanica would find the site by chance when descending into the valley from their usual pastures. Not claiming the site for themselves, the word spread, and since then the site has been the site of pilgrimage despite its gradual decay.
