The 8th month of the
Ajaxian Calendar is dedicated to the concept of pondering and self reflection. It is the coldest month of the year with the shortest amount of daylight. In
Tri-City you only get daylight between 8:00am and 6:00pm. The winter solstice is right in the middle of the Month of Pondering.
In the
Likemind naming system, The Month of Pondering is assigned the color purple, based on the slight purple tint of
Olo's night sky. As a result the name 'Purplemoon' is one of the most common for this month.
The Month of Pondering has more recognized holidays/festivals than any other month in the Ajaxian Calendar. Though to be fair, they are not always the most fun.
A lot of the traditions of this month come from the northern part of Olo such as
Northwinds Pass,
Bricktown, and
Thistletwist. This is a result of the production and comerce of these areas being affected by the cold and dark more than their southern neighbors.
Slow Business
For most of the year Tri-City is a bustling hub of trade. The city has often been called the noisiest place in all of Olo. However, as the city enters the month of Purplemoon many of the roads that lead to Tri-City are getting covered in ice and snow.
The Northwinds Pass that allows trade with Keplar to the east is always completely snowed over for a month or two. The railroad to the east must completely shut down, and no travelers would be crazy enough to try to travel this way during the Purplemoon.
The people of Northwinds Pass are accustomed to being stuck in their town with no connection to the outside world during this time of the year. This is also why
Month of Preparation is such a big deal in their culture.
Trade to the west is not much easier for Tri-City, and the
Tepid River can even start to ice over and make trade down river more difficult.
As a result, the once bustling city is forced to take a time out. It is almost as though nature itself is telling the people to chill and take a break.
