Black Squadron

Written by Judge Fredd

Following the discovery of the Imperial Super Star Destroyer Eclipse after the Battle of Hoth by the starfighter pilot Maximillian Eroun, the Rebel Alliance found themselves in a difficult position. Because of the dire state of the Rebellion after the defeat on the Ice World, the Alliance was unable to dispatch a force of appropriate size and competency to deal with a threat of unknown magnitude. However, at the insistence of General Dodonna it was decided that a small but diverse group of specialists might be able to investigate and stall the construction and deployment of the ship long enough for the Alliance to recover.   Five founding members were chosen due to their individual skill sets and merits. The first and simplest choice was Edyssian Bgess, a galaxy-renowned mercenary starfighter ace whom had been brought on to assist in training new rebel pilots. Edyssian had some reservations about this post and continued to insist that his talents were wasted training rubes. As such, when offered a position on the squadron (with a slight pay increase) Edyssian took the position with the hopes of finally getting in on the action.   The second member, Drex Nogru, was brought on for his previous experience as an envoy among the Iridonian delegation. It was believed that his political experience and contacts would provide a great advantage.   Doctor Adinor Savin was chosen as the third member for his technological and medical expertise, as well as his discerning moral mind.   A promising young pilot, Dami Crik, was chosen as the fourth member of the squadron at the recommendation of Eroll Vinnher, head of the deep-cover infiltration groups. Vinnher believed that Crik's talents would be well-suited to a mission as aimless and desperate as this one.   Finally, Alliance Command argued for many hours over who would lead the squadron. Despite many more meritorious options, including names such as Syndulla, Antilles, Tolderyn, Prayan and Nem; Alliance command decided to place the responsibility for the operation in the hands of the man who discovered the threat. A brave officer and capable pilot, Maximillian Eroun distinguished himself in few ways from his peers. As such, he had not yet become vital to any particular formation within the Alliance. After long debate, it was unanimously decided to risk all on Max's yet unproven ability.   With the squadron formed under the leadership of the newly promoted Commander Eroun, a previously abandoned base hidden within the Core was reactivated at Vakkar. After being briefed on the situation by Special Operations commander Madine, the squadron departed to Vakkar at the head of a small flotilla of supply ships.

History

Originally established as a front-line starfighter wing, Black Squadron's record was marred by a continuous string of bad luck culminating in the Squadron's total destruction under the command of Tuki Vannaka.    Now reactivated under the command of Maximiliian Eroun with the express purpose of investigating the Eclipse project, the title of Black Leader may have finally shed that poor fortune
