Real Alliance to Restore the Republic

Made up of Rebel factions who opposed seizing the Imperial throne, the Real Alliance to Restore the Republic cut ties with Leia and Mon Mothma when they went to Coruscant. Garm Bel Iblis's triumphal return to Corellia and open declaration of defiance, echoed swiftly by Lothal, Naboo, and Serenno, provided those dissatisfied elements with a natural rallying point. They have relatively little military strength, but it’s an open secret that many formerly Rebel-aligned systems, despite officially accepting Leia Organa’s authority, are strongholds of sympathy for the Real Alliance.

Structure

The Real Alliance to Restore the Republic holds little territory as such; the Corellian system has rallied around its returned Senator, and a few scattered systems like Lothal, Naboo, and Serenno have also declared open allegiance to the cause, but the bulk of this faction exists underground and on the fringes, with sympathizers everywhere in the so-called Irregular forces of Leia's Empire – if one knows where to look and how to ask.

Corellia

Despite the wealth created by the Empire's extensive use of their shipbuilding capabilities, the independent-minded Corellians have long chafed under the restrictions of Imperial rule – relatively light as it was on a Core world – and tired of their sons and daughters being recruited into the Empire's endless wars of repression. So when news of Endor reached them, the system government moved quickly to expel, imprison, or suborn their Imperial overseers.   Close on the heels of that news came Garm Bel Iblis's return from hiding and exile, warning of Mon Mothma's growing (if well-intentioned) despotism, suspicions which seemed to be confirmed when she used Leia Organa to seize control of the Empire, rather than replace it. With the support of the people, the charismatic Senator led his native system to be the first to declare its intent to resist Mon Mothma and Leia Organa's new Empire.   Now X-Wing fighters, Peregrine cruisers, and other tools of rebellion roll off the lines of Corellian shipyards, instead of the TIE fighters and Star Destroyers that once dominated their skies.

Lothal

The Empire ruled Lothal with a fairly light hand up until several years before the Battle of Yavin, when it began ramping up its efforts to exploit the planet's resources, a project which was opposed by the Spectre and Phoenix cells (with occasional assistance from the Massassi unit), drawing the attention of several high-ranking Imperial officials.   After a lengthy struggle, Spectre cell defied the wishes of Rebel command and returned to Lothal with a handful of additional allies, and successfully liberated the planet from the Imperial occupation under Grand Admiral Thrawn and Governor Ahrinda Pryce in 7976, thanks in large part to the unconventional leadership and tactics of Jedi Padawan Ezra Bridger, who disappeared during the final battle.   The people of Lothal are loath to give up their hard-won freedom to the Imperial Republic, remembering what happened when they invited the original Empire to their world, and have therefore aligned themselves with the Real Alliance.

Naboo

Naboo fared well under Imperial rule. As the site of the Emperor's favorite retreat, the planet quickly became a destination of choice for high officials seeking the Emperor's favor, and a focus for tourism generally. Reluctant to spoil the planet's peaceful ambiance with blatant displays of force, Imperial authorities left the local government almost entirely intact and settled for a minimal planetary garrison; even the Emperor's ancestral home had its ferocious security measures shrouded in Nubian elegance.   Instead, the Empire implemented a massive ISB surveillance program to identify dissidents, who could then be quietly arrested and dealt with. This succeeded in suppressing open, active resistance, but non-cooperation and other forms of passive resistance became rife. The Royal Naboo Security Forces expanded substantially during this time, ostensibly to support ISB as their local enforcement arm.   In the chaos after Endor, the RNSF rose up against the Imperial occupation, arresting many of the ISB spies and analysts and striking at the small planetary garrison. The remaining troops and ISB personnel fell back to the Palpatine Estate and its fixed defenses, where they have been beseiged ever since, neither side willing to yield, neither side willing to resume active fighting.

Serenno

If you ask a native of Serenno, they'll tell you that their planet has been a thorn in the side of the Empire since before the Empire admitted what it was; after all, their most famous son, the great Count Dooku, left the corrupt Jedi Order to lead half the galaxy in rebellion against the nascent despotism of Palpatine and his faux-Republic while the other half were still deceived.   After two decades of heavy-handed military occupation by Imperial forces, Palpatine's death finally allowed the people of Serenno to throw off their oppressors and re-establish self-government, whereupon they promptly declared for the Real Alliance.   Though Serenno is located on the edge of the territory claimed by Zsinj, the warlord has so far made no attempt to reconquer the planet; pacifying the fiercely militant population would require a tremendous investment of resources, which the Warlord is loath to do when there are other, cheaper and more profitable, investments to be made.

Ryloth

Ryloth has been fighting against tyranny since the Clone Wars, beginning when Separatist forces under Wat Tambor occupied the planet. Republic assistance allowed them to drive off the Confederate forces, only to be betrayed both by their erstwhile allies and their own Senator when Palpatine declared the New Order.   Those memories have been burned into the Twi'lek people and their leaders, so after the Imperial occupation withdrew in the wake of the Emperor's death, they have refused all invitations and entreaties to join Organa's "Imperial Republic", choosing instead to throw their lot in with the Real Alliance—including, in one of history's ironies, the home planet of the Separatist movement that first plunged their world into war.

Assets

Peregrine-class Heavy Cruiser

Designed by the Corellian Engineering Corporation as a civilian heavy-duty cargo ship capable of withstanding all but the most well-armed pirate attack, a stock Peregrine-class features overpowered engines, strong shields, and no less than 12 quad laser cannons for point defense. Militarized versions of the 750-meter vessel are currently the largest capital ships fielded by the Real Alliance, with the addition of 8 turbolasers to each broadside and the conversion of the upper cargo deck into a hangar capable of carrying 6 full starfighter squadrons and a dozen other small support craft.   Typical tactics are almost fighter-like, and involve closing range on a target as quickly as possible to deliver a broadside in passing, angling the shields for maximum protection against that enemy as one closes, passes by, and then maneuvers for another pass.
