Global Union
The Global Union was a congressional world government that was humanity's sole superpower from 2041 C.E. to 2225 C.E., after which it collapsed due to geopolitical tensions in the wake of the Siliconian War.
Governance
The Union was considered authoritarian by political observers, despite its adherence to democracy in the form of the Union Congress, in which elected officials from Earth and Luna elected the anonymous "Leader" of the Union. Economically, the Union was characterized as adhering to a market socialist economy.Controversies
The nation states that would spearhead the creation of the Union were accused of war crimes in the third world war, during which the entire Russian Federation was destroyed using orbital kinetic bombardment in a 93 second period. The Union was accused of committing similar atrocities when they used the same weapon system on half of Mars during the early days of the Silconian war. Discontentment with the action and the lack of voting rights for Martian citizens eventually led to a number of uprisings in 2215 C.E., and later Martian independence.
